Part Time, Day Shift (64 hours biweekly)
Hours: Monday - Friday (Varied Days), 7:30am - 4:00pm

General Summary

Performs a variety of technical and general duties at a basic skills and knowledge level.

Essential Functions:

Precisely and accurately perform a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques in concurrence with established laboratory policies and procedures. Responsible for all technical procedures utilized in the preparation of microscopic slides including tissue processing, paraffin block sectioning, and H&E staining. Responsible for the production of high-quality slides from frozen or fixed tissues. This will include trimming, embedding, processing, sectioning using a microtome/cryostat, staining with H&E, special stains and immunohistochemistry. Performs equipment maintenance, reagent recycling/reclamation and efficient use of the pathology laboratory information system and specimen tracking system.

Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation. Prepares solutions, reagents, etc. used for testing purposes. Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Associates Degree Required and College Transcript As part of CAP requirements, copy of college transcript required upon hire. Required Bachelors Degree Preferred

Work Experience:

Completion of student clinical rotations. Required or 1 year On-the-job histology experience. Required and Medical technology or a related science. Required

Licenses:

Certified Histotechnologist - ASCP within 1 year Required or Certified Histotechnician - ASCP within 1 year Required
