Duties Description Under the direction of the Historic Site Regional Supervisor, M-1 at the Palisades Regional Administration Office, Bear Mountain, NY, the selected candidate’s duties include, but are not limited to:•Administers rules, regulations, and policies of OPRHP and the State of New York. •Applies technical and professional standards and guidelines to manage, supervise, and coordinate all activities at the Site; develops, writes, and implements the Site’s master plan.• Supervises all staff and volunteers.o Approves staffing and schedules for the operations, interpretation, recreation, and educational program functions.o Conducts interviews of prospective employees.o Conducts periodic permanent and seasonal staff performance reviews.• Develops, supervises, and conducts historic site operations, programming, special events, and public relations.• Works with the Division for Historic Preservation (DHP) on developing plans for interpretation, building preservation/restoration, and collection care.• Collaborates with the DHP, local organizations and governments to promote the site and its programs, encourage support for, participation in, and use of the Site.• Conducts research about the Site including the people and events related to it.• Prepares the budget and administers finances for the Site.• Schedules, monitors, and coordinates work projects, restoration crews, and contractors.• Plans and supervises site security; responds to visitor concerns and issues.• Ensures the historical accuracy of exhibits, interpretation activities, structures, and landscape.• Prepares reports to the Regional Office regarding spending for seasonal staffing , maintenance supplies and materials, and special projects.• Monitors and helps coordinate archaeology, collections care, and restoration programs.• Represents the agency in featured interviews and at community programs and events.• Serves as ex officio member of all friends’ committees.• Coordinates all activities of friends groups, volunteer organizations that support site activities and programs.
Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS or 55-b/c Qualifications:This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).**To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:A bachelor's degree in historic preservation, museum studies, education, history, American studies, anthropology, or architectural history;AND general experience* in museum or historic site operations involving education, research, exhibition, and/or collection management including accessioning, cataloging, inventory, and object care/handling;AND two years of administrative experience** (budgeting, planning, directing, and/or supervision) at a historic house, historic site, historic park, historic section of a museum, or with a governmental agency or program having responsibility for historic houses, museums, historic sites, or historic parks, as follows:*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.**Employees appointed via the NY HELPS program are restricted for promotional appointment until their position is covered-in to the competitive class by the New York State Civil Service Commission (CSC), or they otherwise obtain permanent competitive status. The CSC has recently covered-in employees who were appointed via NY HELPS on a permanent or contingent permanent basis between June 26, 2024 and June 11, 2025. Notification to employees regarding a change in their status is forthcoming. You may wish to apply if you received a permanent NY HELPS appointment to a qualifying title within these timeframes and are interested in this opportunity. Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:• Candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. • Candidates must be available to work occasional weekends and nights for special events and to meet operational needs.LOCATION PAY: The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PEF Grade 18 ($66,951) and the Downstate Adjustment ($2,000).
