HIM Identity Specialist - HIM Operations

Summary: This position is a staff level position who independently performs specialized or advanced health information activities necessary to maintain the integrity of the Master Patient Index as they deliver high quality service and support to our customers. This position performs all Identity Functions (including patient merges, unmerges, contact moves, name changes, work queue resolutions, etc.) for all patients housed in the EMR database. MPI integrity is essential to accurate patient identification which leads to increased patient safety and timeliness of patient care delivery. They will work cooperatively with the Identity Supervisor, staff, and physicians, as well as, internal and external customers to ensure goals are met, and quality targets are reached and maintained. **The schedule for this role is Monday—Friday from 9:30 am—6:00 pm.** Responsibilities: 1. Maintains master patient index integrity across the system by performing medical record number merges, and unmerges. Utilizes a variety of systems to research, and resolve duplicate MRNs by performing data comparison in a timely manner. Makes final determination to process all number merges/unmerges. 2. Performs concurrent and retrospective contact moves. Researches by utilizing a variety of systems to make final determination to process. 3. Performs name and demographic changes with supporting documentation. 4. In collaboration with other areas, works to resolve all overlay issues identified in patients’ health record. 5. Researches through comparison of demographic and clinical information and resolves patient identification problems referred by external departments or patients for fraudulent identity use, such as identity theft. 6. Supports the Coding, Revenue Integrity, and PFS divisions across the healthcare system by researching and correcting errors on accounts to ensure timely billing 7. Communicates with Supervisor and other Identity Specialists to ensure coordination of efforts. 8. Ensures that the delivery of services to customers (both internal and external) are appropriate and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and objectives. 9. Collaborates with other team members to ensure optimal efficiency throughout the area. 10.
