JOB SUMMARY:
This role will be responsible for collaborating with other surveyors, engineers or designers on projects for state, regional, local, and private clients performing a variety of tasks in the preparation of plans and/or tasks on multiple projects, as well as leading/overseeing and checking the survey work of others. The position will function as a work group leader in the development of engineering plans related to all facets of the surveying. It is expected the position may plan, organize, lead, and implement various work in support of other project managers in the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operational/Technical
• Act as Work Group Leader on various size projects.
• Supervise and guide the organization on projects related to surveying functions performed within the organization.
• Review preliminary and final design drawings, review or check surveying computations, specifications, and report writing, etc.
• Promote excellent internal and external client service throughout the organization.
• Perform checking of survey related drawings.
• Prepare contract documents, plans, and sketches utilizing client approved design software.
• Perform/check horizontal and vertical geometry calculations as needed.
• Perform and check quantity calculations.
• Assist in supervising the efforts within the organization, including developing the technical skills and project knowledge of co-workers.
• Assist in monitoring the performance of projects, including quality, schedule, and budget.
• Participate in project site and project status meetings.
• Develop project survey related workplans.
• Assist in development of scope of work, budget/man-hours, and schedule recovery plans.
• Keep up to date with new technology, survey equipment and advancements.
• Provide support to other offices as needed.
Project Manager (for assigned clients/projects)
• Provide primary communication interface with clients.
• Effectively monitor project budgets and prepare project budget forecasts.
• Oversee and coordinate detailed project/planning.
• Organize/run team meetings and attend task meetings.
• Assist in the development of letters of interest and proposals.
• Oversee preparation of technical price proposals.
• Monitor overall quality of the project.
• Conduct and document meetings and conversations with clients.
• Coordinate work with subconsultants and other involved parties, managing sub consultant budget and deliverables.
• Maintain high quality performance and inspection standards within billable goals that properly balance profitability with the quality standards of the organization.
• Lead process improvement teams as assigned.
• Conduct and document post-project review meetings.
• Maintain project emails.
• Maintain project files in accordance with Company File and Storage Policy.
• Drive improvements and efficiencies that result in optimized profit margins on each project.
• Maintain compliance standards amongst the staff to properly adhere to a sound risk
management plan so that the company operates within established regulatory guidelines.
Financial
• In conjunction with Transportation Division Manager, participate in financial reviews on a quarterly basis and company-wide project audits on a bi-annual basis.
OTHER PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
· Other duties that may arise from time-to-time and/or are commensurate with the title and position.
· Travel as required and as it relates to above duties or as directed by supervisor.
· Attend training prerequisites as provided by the Company.
Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· Associates or Bachelor’s degree in surveying or related field required.
· Minimum five (5) years of relevant related experience.
· Pennsylvania Professional Land Surveyor License in good standing required.
· Ability to communicate effectively with ownership, management, co-workers, customers, vendors, contractors, partners, and other stakeholders.
· Applied knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal statutes and guidelines with respect
· to field.
· Knowledge of CDR-M Design and Office Procedures.
· Knowledge of clients' design manuals, procedures, specifications, standards, computer programs, applicable design codes, engineering software, and plan presentation format.
· Knowledge of written communications including technical reports, letters, meeting minutes, etc.
· Knowledge of highway, right-of-way, property, ALTA/NSPS Land Title, and subdivision development and deliverables.
· Skilled in the use of relevant computer software as needed, including but not limited to, Bentley MicroStation CADD, Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Bluebeam as well as other online resources.
· Ability to effectively check and/or review design drawings.
