Will be expected to operate plows during winter operations and to obtain the equipment certifications listed above. Minimum Qualifications Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1: Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination and drug test*, and possess a Class D Driver License.Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2:Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination* and drug test; and possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restriction. Candidates will be evaluated on their ability to satisfactorily operate a NYSDOT large dump truck within two weeks of appointment. Failure to pass will result in termination.Highway Maintenance Worker 1:Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes and possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements, and two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications, in addition to the following three specific certifications: heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader.Within the first two weeks of employment, applicant must satisfactorily complete NYSDOT Heavy Dump Certification or their employment will be terminated.NOTE: All candidates must pass a pre-employment physical/medical examination* and drug test prior to beginning employment.
