**Primary Purpose**
Under direct supervision in a field crew, to perform groundwork associated with construction, repair, or maintenance of overhead lines. In addition, perform the less-skilled manual operations as a member of a crew in connection with the Construction and Maintenance work on the overhead system. Must be able to work outdoors in wind, rain, sleet, cold, heat, snow, etc. and perform manual work such as digging and back filling, removing dirt and debris, mixing cement, perform minor assembling and dismantling operations of equipment, cutting weeds and shoveling snow. Must have the ability to climb and work at heights with hand tools and power tools from various positions on ladders and structures. Must be able to drive trucks with and without trailers. Must possess excellent work performance, attendance, and safety record. Overtime work, which includes responding to callouts, is required.
**Primary Duties**
+ To perform work in preparation for job operations, such as obtaining and carrying tools and equipment from the truck to the work area, consisting of items such as cant hooks, shovels, bags of stone, sand and cement; and, working with other team members in assembling truck derrick, stiff leg, attaching steel lines and chains, and performing other preparatory operations as required
+ To perform work, such as hoisting tools and equipment to the Workers on the pole and receiving tools and equipment lowered to the ground
+ To perform minor assembling and dismantling operations such as installing pole and arm hardware, installing earth anchors, attaching pole guards, ground wires and mouldings
+ To perform manual work such as digging, removing dirt and debris, mixing cement, backfilling and tamping and working with other team members in lifting and carrying poles and sawing and splitting poles
+ To perform manual work in vaults, such as carrying tools, equipment and material to the work area, working with other team members in moving heavy or bulky equipment, and cleaning the work area upon completion of the work
+ As instructed, to drive truck or truck-and-trailer, to operate trailer-mounted equipment excepting power-driven wire-reeling equipment and pole-hole diggers; to operate portable equipment, such as portable generators, concrete breakers, and hand pumps
+ Safeguard the public when hazardous operations are being performed, and to perform similar tasks to promote safety on the job
+ Occasionally, as assigned, to perform watch and guard duty on and around mobile emergency equipment.
+ To perform related work as assigned
+ Overhead Helpers will demonstrate within 90 days of classification into this job, the ability to satisfactorily use pole climbers and safety belt
**Job Scope**
+ This position requires participation in the local union and payment of union dues
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ High School Diploma or GED equivalent
+ Possession of Commercial Drivers Instruction permit
+ Advanced certification from an Electrical Line Worker Program OR relevant military experience OR completion of Albat or equivalent (international), OR 1-2 years of previous utility construction experience
+ Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test
+ Successful completion of Company's assessments
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ CDL Class A
+ Tanker Endorsement
+ 3-5 years of previous utility construction experience
+ Previous wood pole climbing experience using safety harnesses, hooks and other climbing aids

+ Hourly rates will be paid in accordance with terms of the candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience or collective bargaining agreement: $31.19/Hr.
