Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) Manager -Pre-strip& Auxiliary Equipment

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a high-caliber and experienced HME Manager – Pre-Strip & Auxiliary Equipment to join our engineering leadership team. We are in search of individuals who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for a strong focus on Planned Component Replacement (PCR) management and driving performance improvements across the fleet. The role also plays a key part in Life Cycle Costing (LCC), contractor oversight, and effective OEM relationship management providing leadership and executing strategies to deliver the industry’s best asset performance at Lumwana Mining Company.

 Your duties will include but not limited to the following:

Accountable for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance and performance of the pre-strip and auxiliary mining fleet that includes Komatsu PC700, PC1250, PC2000, PC3000 Excavators, Komatsu 785 Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Wheel Dozers, HM400 Articulated Dump Trucks, Tyre Handlers, Lowbeds, and Service Support Equipment. Creating an enabling environment to achieve and exceed the business plan. Manage all maintenance activities related to the pre-strip and auxiliary equipment fleet by ensuring maximum equipment availability, safety, and efficiency. Lead the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of PCR (Planned Component Replacement) programs. Build and strengthen a capable planning and reliability engineering team, focused on structured work management, asset health monitoring, and failure elimination. Own and execute Life Cycle Costing (LCC) strategies to optimize asset performance and replacement planning. Oversee contractor and OEM activities, ensuring safety compliance, service quality, and alignment with technical and commercial expectations. Drive operational discipline around preventative maintenance, defect elimination, and work execution. Monitor and report on key equipment KPIs (Availability, MTBF, cost/hour, planned vs reactive ratio). Partner with Supply Chain and Engineering to manage critical spares, long-lead items, and rebuild plans. Ensure strict adherence to safety, statutory, and environmental regulations in all maintenance activities. Provide mentorship and leadership to a large team of supervisors, engineers, planners, and artisans. Lead continuous improvement and reliability initiatives across the fleet.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant technical qualification with extensive experience). Minimum of 10 years of experience in HME maintenance in large-scale surface mining operations. Proven experience managing pre-strip and auxiliary fleets, including large excavators (PC2000+), ADTs, and support equipment. Demonstrated success in PCR execution, component planning, and cost-effective maintenance strategies. Deep understanding of LCC principles, major overhaul management, and reliability-centered maintenance. Strong OEM and contractor management experience, with a focus on compliance and performance delivery. Proficiency in CMMS/ERP systems (SAP) and maintenance planning tools. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Strong safety orientation and ability to drive culture change. Must be a member of Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
