Hearing Screener - Newborn / Infant (Per Diem)

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Hearing Screener - Newborn / Infant (Per Diem) to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and North Central Bronx. Jacobi Medical Center is a 457-bed, Level I Trauma Center and North Central Bronx Hospital (NCB) has 213 licensed beds.  To this day, Jacobi and NCB remain respected leaders in emergency medicine, trauma surgery, burn care, pediatrics, primary care, and women’s health.

Opportunity Details:

Must be able to work on weekends/holidays. Interest in working with newborns/infants. Performing newborn hearing screenings in both the Well-Baby and NICU nurseries as well as in the mother’s hospital room. Documenting results in the electronic medical record. Confirming or rescheduling outpatient appointments. Per Diem Rate = $33.25 per hour

 

During the minimum two-three-month training period, Hearing Screeners are trained in:

Overview of the ear and hearing as well as how screening tests relate to this knowledge. Knowledge of physiology of hearing. Hands on screening with equipment, troubleshooting equipment, surroundings, and babies. Knowledge of work-related software required. Emergency procedures and infection control - proper training and certification (through hospital mandated in-services). Accessing interpreter services when necessary. Ability to handle newborns in nursery. Ability to explain and describe tests to parents. Ability to make decisions with regards to which babies need to be screened, which are able to be screened, how long to spend screening each baby, when to end a screening when the testing conditions are not adequate. Communicate with Director of Audiology, Audiologists, fellow Hearing Screeners and support staff on a daily basis with any problems, questions, or comments
