Cleveland Clinic's H80 General Medicine/Telemetry unit cares for a variety of patients (respiratory, gastrointestinal, dialysis, diabetes, and more) as well as the homeless population and patients going through drug and alcohol withdrawal. The diversity of this patient population is comparable to that of the Emergency Department and as a result, caregivers learn a lot of skills that can take them anywhere in Cleveland Clinic. As a Health Unit Coordinator in this unit, you will be responsible for providing a high level of customer service to patients, families, visitors and other caregivers to promote and support positive patient experiences. You will also perform administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient operational flow in their assigned department. **A caregiver in this role works days from 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
+ Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
+ Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
+ Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.
+ Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
+ Handle various computer tasks, such as updating schedules and managing patient information.
+ Coordinate and send out pages to physicians, especially during emergencies like traumas and strokes
+ Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High School Diploma or GED
+ One year of experience in a customer service-related role
+ Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ College degree
+ Microsoft Office experience
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
+ Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
+ Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
+ Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
**Personal Protective Equipment:**
+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
