Position OverviewUnited Health Services (UHS) is seeking a detail-oriented Health Information Management (HIM) ROI Specialist to join our team. In this vital role, you’ll be responsible for processing medical record requests, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations, and maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and accuracy. Your ability to manage records efficiently supports both patient care and organizational integrity.

Job Responsibilities:
+ Review patient health records to verify authorization and confirm the appropriateness of each request for information based on applicable regulations and facility policy
+ Receive and process medical record requests submitted via electronic health record systems, walk-ins, telephone, mail, or fax
+ Confirm completeness and validity of requests by ensuring required patient identifiers, signatures, and dates are included according to HIPAA and organizational policy
+ Retrieve and compile relevant portions of the medical record from the electronic health record system, ensuring only the information specified in the request is released
+ Utilize patient portals and electronic health record software to deliver records electronically when appropriate and permitted by policy
+ Generate and issue invoices for applicable record copy fees, adhering to federal and state fee guidelines and ensuring accurate documentation for billing
+ Coordinate with internal departments such as UHS Business Office, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Ancillary Services, and Pharmacy to fulfill complex or cross-departmental record requests
+ Resolve customer and patient concerns related to delays in turnaround time, missing documentation, or clarification of request scope with professionalism and confidentiality
+ Maintain a quality performance accuracy rate of at least 98% through diligent attention to detail and adherence to regulatory and organizational standards
+ Achieve a productivity rate of at least 95% by managing daily workload efficiently and maintaining timely completion of requests
Position Qualifications:
Minimum Required:
+ High School Diploma or equivalent.
+ Working knowledge of electronic health records.
+ One (1) year previous experience in a release of information, Health Information Management or healthcare environment.
Preferred:
+ Knowledge of New York State Rules and Regulations pertaining to HIPAA and Release of Information.
