JOB SUMMARY
The Health Educator is responsible for promoting, maintaining, and improving individual and/or community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors that promote healthy living and prevent disease. This includes collecting and analyzing data to identify health needs, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating health education designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies, and environments.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree in Community Health, Health Education, Wellness, Health Promotion, or a related field.
Preferred/Optional: Master's degree in Community Health Education or Public Health.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Two years of health education experience. Experience with Microsoft Office products. Strong written and verbal skills.
Preferred/Optional: Five plus years of health education experience. Knowledge of quality improvement and performance management processes.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: None.
Preferred/Optional: Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
The Health Educator position requires someone passionate about both public health and national service to guide a team of AmeriCorps members who have committed to a year of service to improve community health.
