The Health & Safety Officer coordinates, supports, provides safety training, and advises FWA site management on all areas pertaining to Health & Safety. Starting Salary Range: $91,264 - $99,854 This is an in-person position located on Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. What you will do Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated. Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting. Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations. Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented. Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities. Coordinate the development of health & safety policies, systems of work and procedures. Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained. Interact with external health & safety consultants in the provision of training programs and health and safety services. Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business. Provide regular reports to the Director of Safety & Support Services and Health & Safety Manager as required. Participate in monthly meetings when required to report on relevant health & safety matters. Interact with suppliers i.e. Insurers, solicitors, etc. Conducts safety training for new employees and annual safety training for existing employees. Assists Health & Safety Manager in development and maintenance of all training curriculum. Primary contact and system maintenance responsibilities for the FWA Loss Prevention System (LPS). Conditions of Employment Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives. Qualifications Associate's Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, or related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Required 3 years in the Occupational Health and Safety field. Preferred Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. (High proficiency) Strong verbal and written communication skills. (High proficiency) Understanding of Federal, State and Local regulations governing Occupational Safety. (Medium proficiency) Aggressive adherence to rules and regulations. (High proficiency) Developed public relations skills. (Medium proficiency) Ability to effective deliver training material. (High proficiency) Well organized, detail oriented, and able to manage and accomplish multiple activities simultaneously, sometimes under time constraints. (High proficiency) Ability to work on own initiative. (Medium proficiency) Ability to work cooperatively with others to complete tasks and implement process improvements. (Medium proficiency) Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. (High proficiency) Ability to travel occasionally.
