Health Actuarial Consultant

Summary:

At the direction of your supervisor, provide actuarial and underwriting support to the Employee Benefits Division

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Perform analyses within the MMA West Actuarial and Underwriting scope of services such as: experience reporting, reserving, forecasting, pricing, funding cost comparisons, stop-loss analysis, population analysis, utilization review, network discount analysis, contribution modeling, benchmarking, and other ad-hoc financial analysesMake actuarial and underwriting recommendations to clients and client sales and service teamsDevelop summary presentations of analysis for client and prospect meetingsAttend client and prospect meetings upon request of senior staff membersDevelop and/or maintain analytical tools for the actuarial and underwriting departmentCoach entry-level actuarial and underwriting analyst team members

Education and/or Experience:

4+ years of relevant job experienceBachelor degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics, finance, or related fieldProficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and PowerPointExposure to databases, statistical analysis programs, predictive analytics, and programming languages helpful but not requiredStrong oral and written communication skills when preparing reports and giving presentationsExcellent analytical and problem solving skillsExceptional attention to detailAbility to prioritize multiple tasks and work in a time-sensitive environmentSignificant progress towards or recently attained actuarial designation with the Society of Actuaries or underwriting designationObtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted State of California Life & Health License

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Ability to use computer keyboard and sit in a stationary position for extended periodsWork is performed in a typical interior/office work environmentOccasional travel may be required for internal team meetings and client meetings

The applicable base salary range for this role is $86,000 to $160,100.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
