Position Summary: The Head Coach is responsible for all phases of and activities associated with operating a successful NCAA Division II program in the sport while embracing the “One Team Wesleyan” concept.
Job Functions: 1.Instruct student athletes in the sport. a.Plan and prepare for athlete instruction. b.Teach the rules and fundamentals of the sport as needed. c.Teach skill development. d.Teach game-specific strategies. e.Instruct athletes in practices sessions, during competitions, in team meetings, and in one-on-one sessions. f.Evaluate student learning through direct questioning, behavior, and performance. 2.Instruct student athletes on sport-related topics, including personal health, wellness, fitness, leadership, team building, and safety. 3.Develop and follow an academic support plan for student athletes. a.Follow the Athletics Department Academic Policy. b.Review and respond to Academic Alerts as needed. 4.Obtain and maintain the College’s squad size requirements. a.Develop and implement a recruiting and retention plan for prospective and continuing student athletes. b.Work with the Office of Admissions on student athlete admissions. 5.Hire, manage, develop, and supervise Assistant and/or Associate Coaches, volunteers, and student workers (when applicable). 6.Develop a competition schedule in conjunction with the Director of Athletics. 7.Schedule, organize, and attend practices and competitions. 8.Be responsible for program game-management as needed. 9.Assume responsibility for the fiscal management of the sport’s program and budget. a.Submit an annual zero-based line-item budget by the required deadline. b.Operate the program within budget allocations and/or as directed by the Director of Athletics. c.Track and monitor program budget(s). d.Submit, implement, and follow a detailed fundraising plan. 10.Assist with and participate in Athletic Department fundraising activities as requested. 11.Attend required Athletic Department meetings including scheduled one on one meetings with the Director of Athletics. 12.Provide the names of two student-athletes to serve on the Student Athletics Advisory Committee and encourage student athletes to participate in this Committee’s activities. 13.Develop a campus and community engagement plan, in cooperation with the Director of Athletics, for the coaches and student athletes. 14.Follow the rules and regulations of the College (including the Athletics Department Policies and Procedures Manual, the College Employee Handbook, and the Business Office Policies and Procedures), the NCAA, and the applicable conference. 15.Assist with the maintenance of sport facilities and equipment as requested. 16.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Position Qualifications:
1. At least three years of previous coaching experience (college-level coaching experience preferred).
2. Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of skills, techniques, and strategies of the sport.
4. Educationally sound philosophy of intercollegiate athletics.
5. Certified in First Aid, CPR, AED.
6. Appropriate sport licensing (when applicable) and driver insurability.
7. Effective interpersonal communication and relationship skills.
8. Ability to work collaboratively and enthusiastically with others.
9. Ability to think critically and solve problems.
