HEAD OF LIVE OPERATIONS

Head of Live Operations 

 

This position will work with the local live operations managers and will serve as the lead for all live operations development and implementation as it relates live operations at a processing facility, including breeder production, broiler production, hatcheries, feed mills and nutrition to produce least-cost live broilers at the desired quantity and quality to meet broiler requirements of the organization. Responsible for strategizing, directing, and controlling production activities to ensure development and delivery of top-quality birds for processing on a least-cost basis for the Business Unit. Also strategize at a high level with local live operations and complex managers on direction for all live haul, feed haul, and garage activities to ensure timely delivery of live birds for processing, the timely delivery of feed to growers and the maintenance of vehicles and equipment in good working condition. 


Direct and manage all live operations within the Big Bird Commercial business unit.

Directs Live Manager’s in regards to facility operations of multiple plants.Develops plans to ensure that live operations are meeting business initiativesApproves AFEs that will provide a return on investment.Developing and managing projects resulting in inventory reductions and service improvements.Recommending and implementing action plans with plants, suppliers, sales, marketing, and finance.Developing relevant and useful reports and analysis to assist Planning.Prepares budget and makes recommendations to executives. May also be responsible for establishing strategy with local live managers and heads of operations for hatchery and breeder/broiler management programs and procedures to ensure overall production meets Division volume and cost objectives. Resolves conflict that may arise.Serves as primary liaison for live operations goals for the business unit.Responsible for stargazing for live operational compliance with safety directives.Oversee recommended improvements to productivity, labor efficiencies, and reducing live production costsEnsure and conduct routine meetings with the Live Operation Managers and Complex Managers, establish accountabilities and goals used for performance evaluation

 

Education:    Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Poultry or Animal Science or similar.  Master’s Degree preferred but not required


Experience: Typically requires 15+ years of DIRECTLY RELATED experience. DIRECTLY RELATED work experience will be accepted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of the educational requirement.

 

Special Skills:

Experience in both live operations and plant operations strongly preferred.Proven experience managing and motivating others for maximum performance. Team player with leadership skills Good work ethic Excellent organizational, math and statistical skills Good communication skills, both verbal and written Understand and comply with Company policy and procedures Ability to handle conflict; interpersonal skills Microsoft Office.  Proficiency in Excel preferred Knowledge and technical skills in a variety of production jobs Strong multi-tasking skills are necessary Strong analytical skills & problem solving Be willing to travel, as needed

 

 

Relationships

 

Internal: Plant personnel, senior team and production employees.  Frequent contact with Corporate HQ and Execute Officers.

External: Community, vendors, customers

 

Manages: Dotted line for Live Operations Managers and support to Complex Managers
