Head of Infrastructure

We are seeking a visionary Head of Infrastructure to lead our IT infrastructure strategy across Australia, New Zealand, and internationally. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring stability, security, and performance across data centres, cloud, networks, and end-user computing. You’ll drive innovation, deliver infrastructure uplift programs aligned to business strategy, and partner with senior leaders, vendors, and teams to enable Downer’s digital transformation. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact by building and managing the technology foundations that power our diverse operations.

Key Responsibilities

As Head of Infrastructure, you will:

Lead and manage a team of infrastructure specialists, engineers, and technicians to ensure the stability, security, and performance of IT systems and networks.Develop and implement infrastructure support strategies, processes, and procedures to meet business needs and drive continuous improvement.Oversee day-to-day operations including incident, problem, and change management.Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to design and implement infrastructure upgrades and enhancements.Drive new service strategies and uplift existing services.Ensure infrastructure performance, capacity, and reliability while proactively addressing risks and issues.Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and SLAs to deliver high-quality outcomes.Provide leadership, mentorship, and foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices, recommending and implementing innovative solutions.

What You Will Bring

15+ years’ experience in IT infrastructure or senior management roles within large, complex organisations.Proven leadership experience managing large teams (15+ people) and outsourced vendor contracts.Strong expertise across infrastructure technologies, including data centres, cloud, networks, storage, and end-user computing.Deep understanding of ITIL frameworks and best practices.Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and delivering services within agreed levels.Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.Relevant tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science, or a related field. Certifications such as ITIL, CCNA, or MCSA are highly regarded.A strategic mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, complex environments.
