We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Government Relations for Germany with responsibility for German-speaking countries, Austria and Switzerland to lead our advocacy efforts in those markets. This senior role will be responsible for representing the company before government and key regulatory agencies. As the voice of our ecommerce platform in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, this leader will champion the millions of small businesses and entrepreneurs who depend on our marketplace to thrive, while also playing a key role in crafting public narratives that support the interests of our marketplace. This role is based in Berlin and reports to the Head of EMEA Government Relations.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in public policy, strong relationships within government, a proven track record in public affairs and stakeholder engagement, and a passion for ecommerce, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation.
What you will accomplish:
Develop and lead eBay’s Government Relations strategy in the German-speaking countries, including proactive measures to positively influence public policy dialogue and legislation across key policy areas such as digital platform regulation, consumer protection, eCommerce regulation and supporting EU legislation and its implementation.Monitor relevant legislative developments and advise internal stakeholders on opportunities and risks.Draft statements, position papers, and feedback on legislative initiatives in close collaboration with internal departments including Legal, Regulatory, Corporate Communications, and other business units.Build coalitions and leverage third-party stakeholders and trade associations to achieve advocacy goals.Interact with multiple stakeholders including government agencies and multilateral organizations.Regular travel expected – particularly between Berlin and Brussels as well as other international capitals.We are looking for a passionate professional, a driven team player with experience in the tech and commerce sector, who is eager to take ownership and lead our strategic engagement on Government Relations in the German-speaking countries.

What you will bring:
University Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in law and/or political science; minimum of 8 years’ experience, in government relations (multi-national experience preferred).Native proficiency in German and a very high level of fluency in English (spoken and written) are essential; outstanding writing, communication, and negotiating abilities.Deep understanding of government, legislative, regulatory, and political processes; established network within German government and GR collaborators (government or parliamentary experience preferred).A creative and strategic thinker with leadership skills to effectively work with and influence diverse audiences, both internal and external; a demonstrated ability to develop and implement advocacy campaigns; excellent organizational skills; adept at juggling multiple responsibilities.Someone who takes initiative and can operate independently while maintaining close communication with a remote manager and team; prioritizes achieving objectives with strong interpersonal abilities and solid judgment.Experience navigating complex, multi-cultural business structures and successfully supporting and collaborating with business leadership; flexible, adaptable, and a proven ability to turn challenges into opportunities.Passion for digital commerce and alignment with eBay’s empowerment mission of SMEs; A strong sense of humor is welcomed.#LI-ML1
