ABOUT THE ROLE
The Head of Enterprise Risk Management Africa is responsible for managing, coordinating, and overseeing all operational risk and control assurance activities across the Africa region. This role provides independent assurance to regional and local management regarding the effectiveness of operational risk and control mechanisms, with a primary focus on Cocoa Sourcing, Cocoa Processing, Cocoa Export, and Sustainability, while also supporting key supporting processes such as HR, Compliance, Finance etc.. The position ensures the consistent implementation and execution of control mechanisms across the region by developing and maintaining a structured program for the regular or ad hoc review and testing of specific controls. Based in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire), this role reports functionally to the Head of Group Enterprise Risk Management and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the CFO Africa.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES INCLUDE
+ Assist local and regional management teams in identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks by implementing consistent control mechanisms, ensuring risk-based prioritization and alignment of focus areas across the Africa region to maintain operational integrity and enhance risk management.
+ Actively support management in the continuous improvement and monitoring of operational control mechanisms and ensure their consistent deployment across the region.
+ Implement standardized control frameworks that align with global, regional, and local requirements, focusing on key areas such as Cocoa Sourcing, Cocoa Processing, Cocoa Export, Sustainability Operations, and support processes including HR, Legal & Compliance, and Finance etc..
+ Coordinate the development and execution of regular reviews and testing of control mechanisms to ensure consistency and efficiency, including the formulation of a regional workplan and its breakdown into localized workplans (“Define workplans”)
+ Lead a team of 3-6 internal controls specialists across various countries, responsible for conducting local control reviews and testing activities ("Execute workplans").
+ Provide independent assurance for risk and control mechanisms through regular reporting routines to regional and local management, ensuring transparency, compliance, and efficiency of operational processes across the Africa region (“Report on workplans”)
+ Engage in specific focus areas such as fraud prevention and detection, compliance with local and international laws and regulations, and process optimization to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
+ Establish regular touchpoints with key functions (e.g., Sourcing, Sustainability, SHE, QA, Legal & Compliance, HR, Finance) to provide updates on risk and control topics.
+ Support regional and local management or functions in addressing imminent issues or other specific risk and control projects, as well as provide support for the preparation, coordination and follow-up of various internal and external audits.
+ Promote operational risk management awareness and facilitate capability-building initiatives across the Africa region.
+ Drive synergies between African countries by harmonizing controls where feasible and leveraging shared resources, knowledge, and best practices.
ABOUT YOU
+ Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related Business field, with additional professional qualifications such as CPA, CIA, or specialization in Operational Risk Management preferred.
+ Excellent English language skills (spoken and written), with proficiency in French being required; knowledge of additional languages is considered an advantage.
+ Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a multinational corporate environment, with a specific focus on managing operational risk and control programs.
+ Demonstrated ability to implement new policies and procedures effectively across businesses with diverse cultural backgrounds.
+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear and effective communication across various cultural and organizational contexts.
+ Strong service orientation complemented by advanced analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
+ Proven capacity to understand and articulate technical issues in a clear and concise manner.
+ Self-motivated and enthusiastic professional with a proactive approach to learning and embracing new challenges.
+ Committed to continuous self-improvement and driving enhancements in work processes and outcomes.
+ Confident and mature team player with the ability to work independently when required, demonstrating discipline and a strong sense of responsibility.
+ Excellent project management skills, similar in managing or leading audit engagements.
+ Skilled in working with data sets, conducting exposure analyses, and synthesizing research findings using spreadsheets, company databases, and other relevant systems.
+ Capable of delivering clear and concise messages, even in volatile and ambiguous environments.
+ Skilled in balancing diverse and sometimes conflicting interests from multiple stakeholders.
+ Flexible and highly adaptable to changing circumstances and evolving priorities.
