Head of Engineering
**What the role is all about:** We are seeking an innovative and experienced tech leader to take on the role of Head of Engineering for REA Cyber City. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for building a world-class engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, and delivering high-quality solutions that drive significant business value. You will be a key member of REA Group’s tech leadership team, collaborating closely with local and Australia-based senior leaders to shape the future of REA CC. **Your responsibilities will include:** **Engineering Leadership:** + Cultivate a continuous improvement culture, fostering a constant flow of ideas for innovation in both business processes and engineering delivery. + Champion an engineering culture that prioritizes quality, collaboration, and technical excellence. + Oversee the internal and external quality of deliverables from REA Cyber City, ensuring smooth and efficient execution that meet global standards. + Inspire and lead organization to leverage emerging technologies to drive maximum value for the organization. + Partner closely with Product, Design, and Business teams through regular alignment sessions, shared roadmaps, and joint planning to ensure technical delivery supports strategic business objectives and user experience goals. + Partner with technology leaders across the business to deliver strategic outcomes, ensuring alignment and collaboration. + Align with REA best practices and contribute to organizational scale with a product mindset. **Talent Development & Capability Building:** + Lead by example in exploring and adopting new technologies, while promoting learnability and upskilling initiatives to help the team adapt to the fast-paced evolution of the tech landscape. + Proactively build and strengthen the engineering, delivery, and technical capabilities of REA Cyber City. + Identify and hire top talent with niche skills in emerging technologies and other critical areas. + Lead the center's efforts in giving back to the local tech community through outreach programs and mentorship initiatives. + Foster collaborative internal communities for knowledge sharing. + Provide focused mentorship and development opportunities for technical and delivery leads within the center, equipping them to take on future leadership roles. + Actively mentor and develop tech and delivery leads within the center, empowering them to become future leaders. + Explore ways to drive cross-pollination of ideas and practices between REA Cyber City and other engineering teams within the organization. **Strategic Direction & Delivery:** + Work collaboratively within the TDLT (Technical and Data Leadership Team) and Group TLT (Technology Leadership Team) to translate strategy into actionable plans. + Partner with CTO as sponsor to define and own the tech strategy for REA Cyber City. **People Leadership & Growth:** + Partner strategically to architect, operationalize, and enhance talent-centric processes that enable the attraction, development, and long-term retention of high-performing individuals within REA Cyber City. + Partner with HR to develop, implement and evolve people processes that attract, retain, and develop top talent within REA Cyber City. + Work closely with the Head of Center to define and implement career paths and growth opportunities for employees. + Champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment. + Conduct regular performance reviews and career development conversations with team members. + Collaborate with the Head of Center to accelerate towards the center’s long-term purpose as a hub for engineering excellence, emerging technologies, and innovation. + Champion servant leadership: Foster an environment where leadership thrives through service to others, prioritising team success, development, and wellbeing. Empower our engineers to take ownership, encouraging autonomy and growth. + Cultivate a non-hierarchical culture: Promote an inclusive environment where ideas are valued over titles, encouraging open dialogue and collaboration across all levels of the organisation. Seek innovative thinking and diverse perspectives from the entire engineering team. **Who we are looking for:** + Over 18 years of proven success in leading large-scale engineering teams across high-growth, fast-paced environments + Extensive experience in building and scaling high-performing engineering organizations across domains. + Deep understanding of software development methodologies adding a product mindset and best practices. + A passion for continuous improvement and innovation, with proven ability to translate ideas into action. + A proven leader with the ability to motivate, inspire, empower and mentor diverse teams of engineers. + Exceptional communicator and relationship builder, adept at influencing across functions, geographies, and seniority levels. + Strategic thinker with a sharp eye on emerging technology trends and their intersection with business strategy. + Experience in fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
