Head of Architecture, MatrixCare

About the Role

We’re looking for a (Lead) Software Architect to guide the architectural vision across multiple product lines, someone with experience, presence, and judgment to influence across teams and business units, but without the need for direct management. This is a senior position that sits at the intersection of product strategy, technical architecture, and customer engagement. The architect in this role will not lead a team of direct reports but will serve as a senior thought partner within a community of architects, helping set direction, unlock execution, and scale impact across our engineering organization. You’ll succeed in this role if you’ve operated as a technical architect, a customer ally, a collaborator and a systems thinker.

Our business is growing. Our customer needs are evolving. And our platform is advancing rapidly, especially as we embed more AI-native capabilities into our products. To meet this moment, we need architectural leadership that’s grounded, broad, and deeply collaborative leadership that combines system design maturity with an instinct for product and a practical eye for the customer.

This role is designed for someone who thrives in ambiguity and sees architecture as a team sport, not a gatekeeping function. You won’t be writing every spec or enforcing top-down mandates. Instead, you'll be working across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to create clarity around where we’re going and why it matters, technically, strategically, and organizationally.

You’ve probably built and modernized multiple systems across your career, from cloud-native greenfield builds to legacy transformations. You understand what good looks like, in production, in a diagram, and in code. But you’re just as interested in the people side of architecture: in aligning opinions, enabling delivery, and making sound decisions with imperfect information.

While deep technical experience is foundational, we’re looking for more than just a System Architect. You’ll be expected to engage directly with customers, listening deeply, diagnosing architectural gaps, and proposing solutions that not only work, but win trust. You’ll help sales and customer success teams navigate technical discussions, and you’ll be comfortable standing in front of a whiteboard with a CIO or product lead and helping them see the path forward.

Internally, you’ll operate as a connector. You’ll work across teams with different priorities and constraints and help bring them into architectural alignment, whether through shared principles, evolved standards, or just the patience to walk teams through tough trade-offs. You’ll be a unifier, not a dictator. You’ll know when to escalate and when to work quietly behind the scenes. You’ll know how to bring product, design, engineering, and business together around common goals and architecture that enables them.

Finally, this person is expected to be a forward thinker in technology and not only be aware of new and emerging technology, but to be the first to learn and be the source of expertise for others in the organization. As we speak now, this role requires fluency in AI-based product development. While you don’t need to be a machine learning expert, you should have real experience working with AI/ML teams and integrating models into production environments. You should understand how to think about inference latency and cost, and how to help product teams make good decisions about when to use AI, and when not to.

You’ll succeed in this role if you’ve operated as a technical architect, a customer ally, and a systems thinker.

Key Responsibilities

Architectural Vision and Modernization

Own the enterprise architectural strategy for the SLTC and Home Health product lines across legacy and next-generation platforms. Establish a forward-looking architecture roadmap that integrates innovations such as AI/ML, LLMs, and serverless computing, keeping in mind the specific challenges and regulatory demands of the healthcare sector.

Customer-Facing Strategy and Technical Roadmap

Serve as a technical liaison with key customers and partners, presenting architectural plans, roadmaps, and future vision in alignment with product strategy. Proactively engage with customers and end-users to understand their workflows, pain points, and expectations, then translate those insights into architectural decisions.

Standards, Governance, and Excellence

Define and enforce architectural principles, patterns, and guardrails that align with HIPAA, HITRUST, and other healthcare compliance frameworks. Champion reuse and modularity across the ecosystem, reducing technical debt and accelerating product velocity.

Cloud Architecture and Optimization

Lead the design and evolution of cloud-native solutions using AWS, Azure, or GCP. Maximize the use of serverless, containers, Kubernetes, and DevSecOps practices to build scalable, cost-efficient platforms.

AI/ML and Emerging Technologies

Partner with data science teams to identify and operationalize AI/ML opportunities that add clinical, operational, or financial value to our customers. Serve as the technology scout, evaluating and integrating emerging tools and methodologies to evolve our tech stack strategically.

Technical Leadership and Mentoring

Lead a high-performing architecture function by influence, coaching and mentoring architects and senior engineers. Embed architecture thinking into the engineering culture, encouraging innovation, accountability, and learning across teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate deeply with product management, engineering, compliance, and customer success teams to align product capabilities with customer and regulatory needs. Foster strategic alignment and reuse by partnering with ResMed architects and technology leaders across adjacent verticals and shared platforms.

Leadership and Strategic Influence

Exceptional ability to communicate and evangelize complex architectural ideas to executive stakeholders, engineers, and customer leaders. Strong cross-functional influence, with experience balancing technical trade-offs with business, financial, and clinical priorities.

Healthcare Technology Acumen

Experience with or strong understanding of EHR platforms, healthcare integrations (e.g., HL7, FHIR, Direct Messaging), and industry regulations. Awareness of patient-centered care models, interdisciplinary workflows, and population health challenges in SLTC and Home Health settings.
