What is The Outland Youth Employment Program?
The Outland Youth Employment Program is a national network of innovative education, training and work opportunities for Indigenous youth that includes our award winning six-week land-based summer program. OYEP wrap around support services are available across the country and summer-based programs are currently available in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia. OYEP has worked towards equity and opportunity for Indigenous youth and communities since 2000
Job DescriptionAs a remote Head Cook, you will play a vital role in the operation of our youth program. You are responsible for all aspects of food production from meal planning, safe food preparation and cleanliness of the remote kitchen and remote dining areas. The youth camp operates for 6 weeks during July and August with 30 youth participants on site. The cook will live on site with the youth during this period of time to provide all meals and snacks for their time there. The Head Cook will maintain a warm, welcome, and professional disposition on and off duty. The setting and accommodation are rustic.
Your work will include:
Be up and ready for work each dayFood preparation for the day, Including Breakfast, Lunch, and DinnerAdhering to a budgetCleaning of the kitchen and dishesServing of FoodMeal PlanningFood ordering and receiving of food orders through GFS and grocery store shoppingMaintain HACCP and temperature logsAdhere to Outland's Health and Safety regulationsCommunication with the Camp Supervisor on daily/future planAssist with any/all associated with the closing ceremoniesMaintain a positive presence with participants, and provide mentorship

QualificationsWHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Individuals who have an interest in culinary, education, training, or socially supportive environments. Applicants must have a current Food Safe certificate.Current Level 1 First Aid certificate is an asset.Camp cooking experience is an asset.High standards in maintaining a clean and organized Kitchen.Be comfortable living in a remote environmentExperience running an industrial kitchenBe able to handle the following physical demands:Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbsClimb ladders or stairs.Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended lengths of time.Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands.Perform work with arms at full length.Work with arms above shoulder height.Additional InformationWHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
