Head Athletic Trainer
Position Summary

Located 45 minutes from the Nation’s Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has been twice named in the top 150 community colleges by the Aspen Institute with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. The hiring salary for this position will be from the min to mid-point of the salary range.


Athletic programs provide competitive opportunities that promote learning and development outside the classroom and encourage interaction among students and between students and the college community. The Head Athletics Trainer plans, schedules, and manages all home athletic events,  Additionally, the Head Athletics Trainer  provides athletic training services to all athletes, orders equipment/uniforms, hires officials, and participates in contract negotiation.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Athletic Training 45%

Serves as the Athletic Trainer and provides injury prevention, injury evaluation, first aid, and emergency care for home training sessions and athletic events to all CSM and visiting athletes.Works with the Athletic and Fitness Director to assess potential safety hazards at all home athletic events/training sessions and with the use of equipment. Develops and facilitates rehabilitation programs for student-athletes.Provides direct patient care to the student-athletes participating in varsity sports.

Regulatory Compliance 45%

Maintains medical documentation for student-athletes by Maryland state law.Ensures that the Health Insurance Portability and Privacy Act (HIPPA) is followed.Enforces Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.Follows approved position statements (mandates) set forth by the Board of Certification (BOC), a national governing body.Creates and maintains policies regarding the well-being of student-athletes' overall health, including lighting, mental health, concussion, and weather policies. 

Strategic Planning 10%

Supports all departmental activities/events.Contributes to departmental, division, and college-wide strategic planning processes.Reviews emergency action plans annually and ensures all athletic staff are trained in all processes. Serves as a Member of the Hall of Fame Committee.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Training

Required Education and Experience:

Experience with administrative, supervisory, managerial, and budgetary work. Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and intramural sports programsExperience in events management.Experience with MS Windows programs.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience working with web design is a plus.

Licenses, Certifications, or Additional Requirements:

Minimum of one year experience functioning as a Licensed/Certified Athletic Trainer

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.Ability to work with professional integrity and discretion.Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.Demonstrate excellent work ethic and integrity.A good driving record is required as is maintenance of insurability under the college’s vehicle liability insurance program.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium work, which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment.
