In this position, you'll be part of a supportive, skilled team that works together to safely and efficiently install the fiber optic infrastructure that keeps our communities connected. Your day-to-day will be hands-on and full of variety — from operating directional drills and installing conduit to pulling cable and setting up network components like handholes and pedestals. You’ll also play a key role in site prep, cleanup, and keeping our equipment running smoothly. What You'll Do Operate directional bore equipment for underground utility constructionPerform all aspects of the drilling machine and sound beacon operationsOperate trenchers, plows, backhoes, excavator, and skid steerInstall and pull underground conduit and cable without disrupting utilitiesPerform potholing to verify utilitiesWork with other crews within the fiber department to complete joint tasks including general site preparation, restoration, right of way (ROW) maintenance, etc.Locate and guide the drill headAssist with marking underground proposed design route with respect to utilities and underground systemsRead and interpret design packagesLead and mentor less experienced coworkers

Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneelWork indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditionsAble to work in confined spacesAble to walk long distancesAble to lift up to 65 pounds without assistance  What You'll Bring Horizontal directional drilling experience is required with 2+ years preferredMastery of HDD Technician I Job DutiesOperate directional bore equipment for underground utility constructionLearn all aspects of the drilling machine and sond beacon operationsLearn to load, secure, and mobilize equipment safely and effectivelyOperate trenchers, plows, backhoes, excavator, and skid steerOperate tampers, jackhammers, drills, and sawsOperate basic hand tools (Cordless Drill, Hammer, Wrench, Socket Set, Shovel)Install and pull underground conduit and cable without disrupting utilitiesPerform potholing to verify utilitiesInstall handholes, pedestals, and marker postsWork with other crews within the fiber department to complete joint tasks including general site preparation, restoration, right of way (ROW) maintenance, etc.Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment and toolsAssist with performing minor field repairs on equipmentAssist with locating and guiding the drill headAssist with maintaining water tanks and associated water line connections to support drilling operationsAssist with worksite housekeeping duties and equipment inspectionsProvide roadway flagging support for the operation to include obtaining Flagger CertificationAssist with work site restorationAssist in the completion of documentation to include record-keeping, billing, and inventory, etc.Learn to recognize general safety hazards and electrical-specific hazardsAssist with marking underground proposed design route with respect to utilities and underground systemsLearn to complete daily close of business (COB) reports for customersAssist with collecting information to make utility locate requestsValid CDL Driver’s License is requiredProficient with the use and operation of small equipment (i.e., mini-excavator, forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer, etc.)Flagger Certification requiredPrevious experience and knowledge of underground utility installationsAbility to read and interpret OSP (outside plant) design drawings and job specifications preferred How We'll Support You
