Hardware Engineer III - NE
SUMMARY: The Hardware Engineer is responsible for researching and analyzing hardware engineering problems at a conceptual level, elaborating these concepts into top-level designs within the market-driven constraints of fidelity, quality, cost, and schedule, then developing these top-level hardware designs into the final detail design and the implementing them in military training systems. Further responsibilities include risk identification and management, communicating with coworkers and management at every phase of the design process, and presenting design ideas, solutions, and status. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: + Directs and conducts activities to design new electronics hardware, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develops test procedures. + Directs, conducts, design for the mechanical design of new and existing products to meet “ease of use” functionality. + Review designs and provides timely, constructive feedback of mechanical and electrical drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software such as AutoCad. + Understand and implement product and drawing baseline management concepts, processes and procedures. + Sustain drawing package through conversion of hardcopy drawings into electronic format utilizing CAD Software. + Ensure proper identification of equipment and ensure it is tracked, assessed, inducted, repaired, maintained, handled, and returned to training sites on time and to applicable industry standards. + Prepare reports as required for correspondence, communication, and activities. + Plan and prepare technical reports, design specifications, test specifications, CDRLs, and test procedures as required. + Attends necessary weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings as required or directed by CymSTAR’s Program Manager. + Troubleshoot simulator issues to resolve problems and ensure trainer availability + Analyze trainer deficiencies, determine the cause, and apply iterative systems engineering processes to resolve the problem. + performs engineering analyses to investigate and recommend solutions for maintenance write-ups or test discrepancies + Perform systems engineering requirements for front-end analysis, training situation analysis, design, development, production, fielding, modification, and sustainment IAW the Systems Engineering Management Plan + Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent; 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Background must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the sciences underlying hardware and software engineering. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional literature. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management, and colleagues. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to comprehend and apply basic trigonometry and calculus. Ability to comprehend and apply principles of modern algebra, Boolean algebra, ratios, and percentages. COMPUTER SKILLS: Solid Technology skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications are essential. Experienced and proficient in the use of standard personal computer software tools; including word processors, spreadsheets, presentation graphics and databases. Experienced and proficient with specialized Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. CITIZENSHIP: U.S. Citizenship. Must be able to obtain a Secret Level Clearance OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Experienced and proficient in the use of standard Personal Computer productivity software tools including word processors, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, project management, and databases.
