The Hardware Embedded Penetration Tester is responsible for performing comprehensive security assessments on embedded hardware systems and devices. The primary duties include:
Key Responsibilities:Extract firmware directly from embedded devices and systemsInteract directly with hardware components and interfacesPerform firmware reverse engineering and analysisAudit the security of hardware protocols and communication interfacesExtract and analyze content from SPI flash and other on-board memoryInteract with and test JTAG, UART, and other hardware debug interface Conduct penetration testing and vulnerability research on embedded systemsDevelop custom tools and scripts to automate and enhance testing capabilitiesAnalyze findings, document vulnerabilities, and provide remediation recommendationsRequired Skills:Proficient in firmware extraction and analysisHands-on experience with hardware hacking and reverse engineeringStrong understanding of embedded hardware interfaces and protocolsExpertise in conducting JTAG, UART, and SPI-based testingAbility to identify and bypass hardware security mechanismsFamiliarity with embedded operating systems and architecturesProficiency in programming and scripting (e.g., Python, C, Bash)Experience with hardware debug tools and test equipmentSolid understanding of network security and penetration testing methodologiesAbility to research, discover, and document hardware vulnerabilitiesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsDoes this sound like you?
