The Harbour Patrol Officer (Casual) assists the Senior Harbour Patrol Officer in planning and implementation of the daily activities including harbour patrol, deep sea vessel escorts port promotion tours, pollution prevention and incident response. **What you do:** + Works with theSenior Harbour Patrol Officer in carrying out harbour patrol duties, includingdeep sea vessel escorts when required investigation of marine relatedincidents. + Supports theSenior Harbour Patrol Officer in liaising with port users and tenants topromote safety of operations and pollution prevention. + Supports theDebris Management Program and responds to potential hazards to navigation inthe harbour caused by floating debris. + Inspects andreports on the condition of docks, aids to navigation, marinas, debriscontainment areas and other port infrastructure, as applicable. + Conducts variousmaintenance related activities on boats and other administered assets orfacilities. + Uses technologyand tools provided to collect data and information in support Operations andother VFPA departments. + Maintains a good working knowledge and understandingof the contents of the Port Information Guide. + Followsprocedures and best practices established for safe operation of vessels includingseaworthiness, troubleshooting simple performance problems and record keeping. + Assists with reporting on the condition of portinfrastructure, including aids to navigation, docks, marinas, and storageareas. **What you bring:** + Mustbe a high school graduate and hold a valid bridge watch rating certificateissued by Transport Canada. + Minimumof 2 years related marine experience and a practical knowledge ofseamanship. + Portlocal knowledge and exposure to port operations is a definite asset. + Musthave basic computer knowledge and ability to learn office and variousin-house specialty applications. + Shiftwork and exposure to a coastal tidal environment with periodic adverseweather conditions. + Mustbe able to work under pressure, demonstrate good judgment, have theability to make decisions, show initiative, and take responsibility forsituations when required. + Exhibitthe ability to work effectively in teams demonstrating excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills with internal and externalcustomers. + Acustomer service results orientated approach is required. + Mustbe in good physical condition to be able to carry out the essential dutiesof this role. **What we offer:** + Market-competitivebase salaries and variable incentive plan + Generousand inclusive benefits offering including retirement benefits plan + Flexibleremote work program + Earnedtime off program + Paidvacation and personal care leave + Learning,development, and advancement opportunities + Onsitegym with towel service in a national landmark in the heart of Vancouver’swaterfront + Friendly,unique, and respectful workplace **Location:** Vancouver, Canada **Job type:** Bargaining Unit, Casual (On-Call) **Working environment:** Shift work and exposure to a coastal tidal environment with periodic adverse weather conditions.
