PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK) This class is accountable for independently performing a full range of hairdressing and cosmetic services for clients/patients. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Performs a variety of hairdressing duties including but not limited to the following: + Cutting hair; + Applying scalp treatments, coloring, permanent waving, finger waving and permanent cream relaxing; + Shampooing and blow drying hair; + Removing superfluous hair; + Applying make-up; + Sharpening, adjusting and sterilizing clippers, scissors and other equipment; + Cleans work area; + May requisition and maintain stock of hairdressing supplies; + Performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY + Knowledge of and ability to apply hairdressing and cosmetology principles and techniques; + Skills + interpersonal skills; + oral and written communication skills. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Possession of a current license as a Hairdresser issued by the Department of Public Health. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS + Experience working as a hairdresser in a mental health setting. + Experience providing hair services on an inpatient unit. WORKING CONDITIONS Incumbents may be exposed to communicable diseases and to risk of injury from clients/patients.
