Inrock Drilling Systems is one of the world’s largest tooling and service providers serving the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) industry. We provide tools and services to HDD contractors globally to help them install infrastructure pipelines transporting water, sewer, oil, gas, electric and fiber underneath geological and man-made obstacles.  

 

Key Performance Areas – About the job 

You are part of a growing team that provides customers with exceptional service at locations throughout North America, and occasionally the world. You’re responsible for performing a land survey, creating a bore plan, providing sound advice and direction to clients directly on their job sites, and guiding them safely past any obstacles and within specified tolerances.

 

You provide expertise and guidance to our customers on site to ensure successful drilling. You take responsibility for tracking the location of the drill head below ground and providing instructions to the driller on what maneuvers they need to make to guide the bit along the bore path and stay within a specific set of parameters. 

 

Other parts of your job: 

Review and understand client provided drawings for the layout of the HDD crossing. 

Layout grid wire in appropriate dimensions and shape based on the geometry of the crossing. 

Survey in the grid wire along with topography and any utilities the drill will be crossing, utilizing CAD based software, generate a drawing that coincides with the client provided drawing.  

Work with the driller to drill the designed path staying in given tolerances. 

Upon completion of the drill, submit final paperwork to the office and the client, work with the drill crew to extract the tooling, clean and pack it up and send it back to Inrock’s shop. 

Who you are 

You have a curious mind, technical interest, are comfortable being alone, and excel in problem-solving tasks where you adopt a collaborative, service-minded and solution-oriented approach when working with customers. With a clear way of communicating, you easily present information, respond to questions and successfully lead our customers. You are motivated by working independently, have a valid U.S. driver’s license, and are willing to frequently travel, occasionally for long periods of time on often short notice.  

 

You preferably have customer service experience, a college degree, and completion of coursework in algebra and trigonometry at high school or college level. You enjoy learning new skills, working outdoors and hands-on. This job is physically demanding with time spent walking on uneven surfaces while carrying tooling, therefore, it is important that you feel that you have the right attributes to do this part of your job. You are fluent in English, both verbally and in writing.
