Position Purpose:
Maintains hospital campus grounds including snow removal, service vehicles and grounds equipment to assure a safe and pleasant environment of care.
What you will do:
Maintains the hospital campus grounds in a safe and clean condition.
Mows and trims grass to proper seasonal height.
Maintains flower beds, trees and shrubs using contract services as needed to supplement own activities.
Performs daily rounds of the grounds to inspect for safety and sanitary problems and correct discrepancies.
Keeps all walks, roads, and parking lots clear of ice and snow.
Maintains and performs minor repairs on engineering vehicles and grounds equipment in a manner that assures their safe and efficient operation.
Maintains an adequate level of lawn care supplies and spare parts to assure the ongoing operation of the grounds keeping operations.
Responds immediately to calls for all service functions and special projects to ensure the safety and operation of the facility.
Assists other trades when instructed by the engineering supervisor.
Able to use large equipment for plowing and lifting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one (1) year experience of groundskeeping.
Work requires the ability to resolve complex problems requiring the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principals and in-depth, experienced based knowledge.
Work requires the ability to understand and respond to simple written or verbal instructions.
Requires a valid Connecticut Driver’s license.
Must be able to obtain Department of Public safety hoisting license within six (6) months of employment.
Physical and Mental Effort:
Requires lifting objects up to fifty lbs. daily. Requires prolonged walking and standing at least 50% of the time. Requires bending and stooping and the ability to reach and grasp objects.
Requires working with equipment in which pose a moderate potential occupational hazard where carelessness could result in cuts, bruises, strains, and exposure to toxic pesticides that require the use of personal protective equipment and proper safety procedures.
Occasional exposure to eye and ear hazards requiring protective equipment.
