Grounds Foreperson I Bookmark this Posting Print Preview | Apply for this Job Posting Details Position Information Job Title Grounds Foreperson I Full Time/Part Time Full Time FLSA Non-Exempt General Job Description Responsible for coordinating and directing the activities of the grounds maintenance section of the Physical Plant Department. Assists in determination of supply needs and reports such to Manager of Grounds. Essential Job Functions 1. Plans work and assigns areas of responsibility for grounds crew workers. 2. Instructs workers in safety concerning use of equipment and tools. 3. Instructs workers in the care of plants and shrubbery. 4. Determines supplies needed and places orders for supplies. 5. Supervises actual work of crew members, checks progress of work, and inspects finished work. 6. Inspects watering of plants and shrubs to ensure the correct amount of water applied. 7. Checks out requests for services and complaints of inadequate service. Non-Essential Job Functions Performs other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. 1. Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices utilized in grounds maintenance. 2. Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of work associated with grounds maintenance. 3. Considerable knowledge of needs of areas throughout the campus for grounds maintenance 4. Ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty and staff. 5. Ability to assign and supervise work performed by others. 6. Able to qualify for university driver certification. Physical Demands Required Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Required Experience and Training Three years of experience in work related to maintenance of yards and gardening. Experience in the use of and safety precautions of machinery utilized in the upkeep of lawns, gardens, etc. is required. Supervisory experience is required. Preferred Qualifications Special Conditions for Eligibility This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing.
