This is the first or entry craft level of the Line progression hierarchy. A Ground Technician will assist a higher-level line worker in safe activities associated with line construction and maintenance. Incumbents are expected to develop appropriate skills to progress to step 3, and approval to progress to Lineman Apprentice. Minimum travel required.
POSITION BASED: Duke Energy Florida
Groundman performs the following with Direct Oversight:
Clearly understand the importance of company safe work practices and safety rules.
Basic understanding of the Human Performance Tools and requirements.
Basic understanding of the isolation of line equipment and grounding practices.
Demonstrates good verbal and written communications skills.
Basic understanding of electrical drawings (line equipment schematics and power system drawings).
Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Develops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical order.
Exposure to Transmission and Distribution system switching activities.
Ability to sit for 2-3 hours; may be driving a truck or sitting on a transmission class equipment.
Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment.
Ability to frequently climb (at 3rd Step).
Ability to frequently and repetitively bend/stoop/squat.
Ability to distinguish colors.

Basic/Required Qualifications
Must have a valid State Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver’s License with Tractor/ Trailer and Tank Vehicle endorsements in 6 months.
High School diploma or equivalent
Desired Qualifications
Software skills including word processing, email, spreadsheets, etc.
Ability to work in a diverse environment with individuals from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
Demonstrate the ability to developing leadership skills.
Must be capable of working on elevated work surfaces.
Must be available for frequent travel.
CDL permit by hiring date.
Specific Requirement:
Must live within 60 minutes of the assigned Operations Center and within the service area.
This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job.
Ability to lift and carry 75 lbs.
Ability to pass any required background check for NERC/CIP/Nuclear compliance.
Must pass appropriate level of Duke aptitude test (VAL and PAT)
Ability to successfully complete the Virtual Assessment for Lineworkers (VAL).
