Note: Benefits may vary based on position type and/or level **Job Summary** The Grossing Assistant helps describe simple and complex surgical specimens. This includes selecting and submitting specimens for various tests. Assist with specimen collection and processing during Fine Needle Aspiration procedures. **Essential Functions of the Role** + Uses on-the-job training, skills, judgment, and problem-solving to examine, describe, and dissect biopsy and surgical specimens under a qualified pathologist's supervision. + Prepares and microtomes required tissues for frozen section specimens. + Assist with patient preparation, specimen collection and processing during Fine Needle Aspiration procedures. + Assist with specimen collection during kidney biopsy. + Accessions surgical pathology specimens and FNA cases into the pathology LIS following standard procedures. + Ensures all stains are properly filtered and rotated according to standard procedure. + Inventories supplies and ensures there are adequate supplies at all times. **Key Success Factors** + Knowledge of laboratory regulations, protocols and procedures. + Statistical and critical thinking abilities. + Effectively communicates with pathologist, surgeons and clinicians. + Ability to perform laboratory protocols and procedures. + Skill in the use of computers and related software applications. + Knowledge of safety and infection control standards. + Ability to work in a team environment. **Belonging Statement** We believe that all people should feel welcomed, valued and supported, and that our workforce should be reflective of the communities we serve. **QUALIFICATIONS** **Location HTPN Downtown Dallas TX** **Department AP Histology Laboratory** **Shift Monday - Friday 2:00pm - 10:00pm** **Preferred Experience Must have Bachelors or 4+ years grossing assistant experience** + EDUCATION - Bachelor's or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification + EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience As a health care system committed to improving the health of those we serve, we are asking our employees to model the same behaviours that we promote to our patients.
