Graduate Speech Language Pathologist- Dixon- Day/Evening

General Summary

As per ASHA regulations as referenced at website: http://www.asha.org/certification evaluates and treats patients with speech, language, cognitive, hearing and swallowing disorders according to the principles and practices of speech therapy at an entry level. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

All duties and responsibilities are to be carried out by the Graduate Speech/Language Pathologist as regulated by ASHA certification regulations described in the above referenced ASHA website address. Examines, diagnoses and provides therapeutic intervention for patients with speech, language, cognitive, hearing, and swallowing disorders. Evaluates and treats receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, cognition, articulation and swallowing skills and regularly reports on patient's progress and goals to other members of the rehabilitative team in order to better coordinate therapeutic interventions. Provides instructions in therapeutic procedures to be continued by the patient. Coordinates speech language pathology treatment collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate progress toward and achievement of established goals. Conducts or participates in training medical and nursing personnel in speech language pathology techniques and objectives. Utilizes safe patient handling techniques for all patient positioning. Delegates appropriate tasks to Rehabilitation Medicine Technicians as needed.

Common Expectations:

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s). Maintains patient record, as required by profession, with accurate documentation to support medical necessity and functional abilities. All patient assessment reports are co-signed by the supervising certified/licensed SLP. Consistently utilizes established policies/procedures, objectives, quality management, safety, environment and infection control standards. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature review, and attendance at in-service meetings and workshops. Acts as a role model in Red Rule compliance and hand hygiene. Collaborates with other team members to create a culture of patient centeredness and clinical excellence. Utilizes SBAR as a standard method of communication in all aspects of patient care. Provides outstanding service to all customers using caring behaviors, fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Masters Degree Required

Work Experience:

Entry-Level Required Student affiliation in a hospital setting. Preferred

Licenses:

Licensed Provisional Speech Language Pathologist Upon Hire Required and Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

Graduate of an accredited program in speech-language pathology. Upon Hire Required You’re unique and you belong here.
