Requisition 202500276ST Title Graduate Employee- Data Analytics & Decision Support- Data Analytics Employee Class Student Employee College Work Study Position No Department Data Analytics & Decision Support Division Division of Enrollment Hours per week 20 Hiring Rate $1589 per month for 12 months (Ability to work summer preferred) Preferred Student Classification Master’s or Doctoral Nature & Purpose of Position This position is supported by a National Institute for Student Success (NISS) grant focused on accelerating student success efforts at SHSU. The position will support the grant by providing analytics aid to various functional areas such as the Associate Vice Provost for Student Success, Financial Aid, etc. The graduate assistant will be expected to use SQL to prepare data by querying databases and then cleaning and transforming the data. It may be necessary to provide statistics, do statistical testing and modeling, and general data mining as appropriate to address research questions. The graduate assistant will work with the data analytics team using machine learning techniques to develop predictive analytics to support institutional efforts aimed at student access and student success. The graduate assistant will be expected to summarize their findings in technical documentation using both narrative and visualizations to support the decision-making of institutional stakeholders. This will include reports, briefs (one-pagers, etc.), slide decks and presentations, and dashboard development and maintenance. Other Requirements for the Position · Master’s or Doctoral student in good academic standing.· Plan to be enrolled in graduate studies through December 2025(or beyond).· Be committed to working 20 hours per week (schedule to be set in conjunction with supervisor) from January 2024- December 2024 including the summer term. There is a possibility of extension for an additional year (Jan 2025-Dec 2025) dependent on grant funds.· Curiosity surrounding data, problem solving, and research.· A basic understanding of statistics methodologies.· Some programming experience.· A strength in some combination of data analytics skills and a willingness to develop where other skills are lacking.
