+ Providing Leadership and Strategic Direction: Develop and implement strategies to enhance process safety performance globally, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance.
+ Enhancing Process Safety Standards: Refine and improve process safety standards, including training, tools, communication, and audit requirements. Focus areas include mechanical integrity, process safety information, and facility siting.
+ Facilitating Hazard Assessment Reviews: Lead and define requirements for process safety and hazard assessment reviews, including LOPA scenarios, reactive chemical scenarios, and management of change requests.
+ Approving Safety Assessment Strategies: Review and approve strategies for process safety assessments such as HAZOP and LOPA, ensuring alignment with best practices.
+ Mitigating Process Safety Risks: Collaborate with manufacturing technology leadership to review and approve process safety technologies and develop programs for conducting safety reviews and CAPEX project approvals.
+ Leading Incident Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations of process safety incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented and shared across facilities.
+ Conducting Global Safety Audits: Lead and participate in global process safety audits to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
+ Building Internal Networks: Foster internal process safety networks to connect and mentor safety SMEs globally, facilitating knowledge sharing and risk awareness.
+ Collaborating Across Teams: Work with global EHS, operations, engineering, R&D, legal, and external stakeholders to drive EHS excellence and replicate best practices.
+ Fostering a Safety Culture: Promote a culture of trust, collaboration, and attention to detail, ensuring open communication and a proactive approach to compliance and risk reduction.
+ Engaging in External Benchmarking: Participate in external benchmarking and trade associations to integrate novel techniques and technologies for sustained EHS performance.
Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or science discipline.
+ Fundamental process safety experience in a private, public, government, or military environment.
+ Combined supervisory and/or management experience.
+ Expertise in hazard assessment tools and risk control programs for unplanned events (e.g., fires, explosions, chemical releases).
+ Knowledge of global, regional, and state process safety regulations and risk reduction strategies.
+ Strategic thinker with high attention to detail and process orientation.
+ Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
+ Proven project management skills and ability to manage resources effectively.
+ Experience in process engineering, design engineering, or manufacturing.
+ Mastery in one or more EHS professional disciplines (e.g., worker safety, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance).
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
+ Master’s degree or higher in an engineering, science, or EHS-related discipline from an accredited institution.
+ Relevant certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP).
+ Multi-lingual abilities.
Travel: May include up to 30% domestic/international
