The Global Manufacturing CAD Designer takes charge of crafting mechanical engineering drawings, developing 3D models, and handling part numbers in system. This role supports the design of new tooling, fixtures, and facility equipment along with the improvement of existing designs, collaborating closely with the Global Manufacturing Engineering team, simulation, suppliers, and site specific Manufacturing Engineering teams at various global factories.
Precision in calculations such as wall thickness, surface areas, and unit conversions (mm to inch) is important for producing accurate 2D layouts and comprehensive 3D assembly models. Additionally, the role involves data entry and maintenance tasks within the Oracle database system, supporting multi-functional operations across the organization.
This position requires excellent skills in communications, process improvement, as well as configuration of CAD Software. You will need to have strong CAD skills and understanding of the SolidWorks & PDM Pro software.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
Collaborate with the engineering teams during product development and design iterations Identify areas of improvement, provide recommendations, and implement solutions by developing new tools or processes Train CAD users in core application skills and standards Strong communication and social skills with the ability to work in a global environment Willingness to work in teams and individually Contribute to activities and projects to help achieve Global Operations goals and objectives Layout and design of tooling, fixtures, packaging, and facility equipment Create product renderings of varying complexity Assist in the design of products following internal guidelines, standards and procedures Checking of 3D models and drawings of varying complexities to align with ASME Y14.5 GD&T 2009 standard Lead meetings with the Manufacturing Engineering team to develop template drawings for production Originate and assist with the execution and completion of engineering change requests Setup and maintain part numbers and other engineering items Assist with preparation for project meetings, design reviews, and related activities Strong communication and organization skills Creation of documents, best practices and standards For This Role, You Will Need: An associate’s degree CAD-related or a degree in industrial technology, manufacturing technology, mechanical engineering, industrial design, or similar field A minimum of 2 years of CAD-related experience required Must be proficient in parametric modeling software, SolidWorks & PDM preferred Familiarity/knowledge of general digital literacy Microsoft Office Use of Microsoft Excel formulas for calculations Knowledge of GD&T (Symbology) Understanding of manufacturing process such as supply chain, manufacturing & quality Must possess the ability to: Generate & Check 2D drawings in compliance with ASME Y14.5 practices Identify/apply all necessary dimensions to fully detail parts and assemblies Create/Load/Store 3D models from 2D sketches and/or drawings Create/Load/Store 3D CAD models (individual parts & assemblies) Use 3D models to define areas, mass, volumes, center-of-gravity and other properties Familiarity/knowledge of general computer skills General understanding of materials properties (primarily metals) In depth understanding of castings, forgings, and stampingsPreferred Qualifications That Set You Apart: Specialty design modules such as Simulation, Composer, DriveWorks, SolidWorks PDM SolidWorks Certification - CSWE (Certified SolidWorks Expert)
