Blending client facing strategic engagement and policy development with specific ESG related programs of work, the Director of Sustainability will be responsible for leading the client’s IFM-based net zero transition. Operating as a senior leader, the Director of Sustainability will update on Energy, Sustainability and Decarbonization workstream progress towards targets, risk and opportunity registers, and be a facilitator of knowledge alignment between CBRE and client leadership teams. This is a hybrid role and the expectation is that the individual will be present in the client’s New York office 3 days a week. Travel to other client sites globally may also be required. What You’ll Do: + Provide formal supervision to employees. Monitor the training and development of staff. Conduct performance evaluations and coaching. Oversee the recruiting and hiring of new employees. + Coordinate and manage the team's daily activities. Establish work schedules, assign tasks, and cross-train staff. Set and track staff and department deadlines. Mentor and coach as needed. + Guide the energy and sustainability team to put in place new technologies and find ways to save money. + Work with the internal platform team on energy procurement and energy-related capital projects. + Assist with choosing initiatives based on how much they will cost over their lifetime and how much they will improve the client's reputation. + Provide strategic and technical guidance in the areas of energy and sustainability management, standard operating procedures, predictive maintenance procedures, etc. + Work with the client and project management teams to make sure that the cost evaluation for these projects includes energy and sustainability factors. + Communicate past, current, and future energy plans and performance through presentations to the account team and client. + Present monthly reports on the status and differences in energy and sustainability and holds monthly meetings on energy and sustainability. + Apply a robust knowledge of multiple disciplines, the business, and key drivers which impact departmental and cross-functional performance. + Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values. Persuade managers and other colleagues to take action while being guided by the organization's functional business plans. Negotiate with external partners, vendors, and customers of divergent interests to reach a common goal. + Identify and solve multi-dimensional, complex, operational, and organizational problems leveraging the appropriate resources within or outside the department. + Significantly improves and changes existing methods, processes, and standards within job discipline. + Acting as a single point of contact, the candidate will work closely with the client leadership and engineering team, as well as the CBRE contract teams to manage the decarbonization and sustainability program reflecting client targets and compliance with governance standards and regional policy frameworks. + Define a net zero strategy and global decarbonization roadmap linked to both the clients ambitions and SBTi goals and then execute against this with defined terms of reference. + Be the subject matter expert, globally, on all aspects of sustainability, including; energy, decarbonization and circularity. + Provide recommendations and solutions to the client on how they can operate more sustainably, and how best these improvements can be monitored and verified, this should include the development of robust business and financial P&L models/cases for energy and decarbonization improvements along with associated return on investments and carbon credits. + Work closely with all key client stakeholders and leaders to obtain approval and feedback on best in class decarbonization options. + GHG data gathering, evidencing, assurance and international compliance reporting to the required standards. (Inline with CBRE’s guardrails). + Utility procurement and the ongoing data management set against best industry practice. + Developing decarbonization program, defining timelines and measurements of success, reflecting new opportunities and emerging risks which can be evidenced as part of the governance structure. + Management of scheduled review meetings maintaining the governance structure and using this as the gateway for revisions, additions and project sign off. + Identify climate risks at all key sites and develop embodied carbon considerations. + Manage the interface between the client and the programme SME’s ensuring that collaboration and momentum are maintained escalating to the Alliance Director or Sector Lead for any developing issues which will impact performance. + Issue monthly updates to the Alliance Director, customer stakeholders, and Sector Lead of the program progress including changes to the risk and opportunity register. + Manage escalations relating to risks such as KPI’s, financial overspends, program delays, and data gaps or inaccuracies. What You’ll Need: + Bachelor's Degree preferred with 8-12 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered. + Experience in the areas of staffing, selection, training, development, coaching, mentoring, measuring, appraising, and rewarding performance and retention is preferred. + Specific knowledge around net-zero operations, GHG reporting, international standards and associated energy/sustainability compliance. + Experience or understanding of Science Based Targets, RE100, EP100, EV100 and how to achieve those. + Ability to lead the exchange of sensitive, complicated, and difficult information, convey performance expectations, and handle problems. + Leadership skills to set, manage and achieve targets with a direct impact on multiple department results within a function. + In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. + Expert organizational skills and an advanced inquisitive mindset. + Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future. CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the position is $165,000 annually and the maximum salary for the position is $189,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program.
