Global Customs Classification Analyst
Job Description

Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid on MID SHIFT. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role

The Analyst of Global Customs Classification is responsible for performing engineering research to identify accurate part information and descriptions. This role involves providing appropriate HS codes for selected regions, contacting stakeholders to resolve classification-related issues, and maintaining proper documentation to ensure compliance with global trade regulations. The analyst will support classification accuracy, facilitate smooth cross-border operations, and contribute to adherence with applicable customs requirements.

What You’ll Do

Assign Harmonized System (HS) codes for automotive parts, machinery, equipment, rubber, and textile materials.

Interpret WCO Explanatory Notes and General Rules of Interpretation (GRI) to determine correct tariff codes.

Meet performance metrics (KPIs, SLAs) set by business units and customers.

Perform engineering research as required to identify adequate part information and description.

Maintain and adhere to all desk procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Contribute to projects, innovation initiatives, and process improvements.

Communicate status updates thru emails to internal clients, business units, and stakeholders.

Draft technical position papers on classification for stakeholders and business units.

Resolve issues and conduct meetings with suppliers, customers, and GM manufacturing departments.

Give updates on operational matters to internal clients and/or GM leadership team

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Must be bachelor’s degree holder, preferably in Engineering, International Trade or any related courses.

Experience with automotive parts, production machinery, equipment, steel, chemicals, rubber, textiles, and raw materials.

Must be proficient in using MS Office, particularly MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook and must be comfortable in navigating different type of application systems.

Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

Must possess strong analytical and research skills.

Must be keen to details.

Ability to read engineering drawings and design is a plus.

Must be proficient in English.

Knowledge about Customs administration and Customs legislation is an advantage.

Knowledge of Harmonized System (HS) codes for tariff on imported and exported automotive parts, steel and chemicals, production machineries and equipment, rubber and textile materials are an advantage.

Knowledge of World Customs Organization (WCO) Explanatory Notes and General Rules on Interpretation (GRI) for the Harmonized System is an advantage.

Ability to speak and write in Portuguese and Spanish is a plus

Knowledge about Customs administration and Customs legislation is an advantage.
