The Regulatory Management & Entity Solutions (RMES) team ensures GBM is well positioned to respond to the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape. We maintain best-practices in the first line of defense related to horizon-scanning, impact assessment, and implementation of new regulations, including driving strategy related to controls, client outreach, and other internal builds/processes required to meet regulatory requirements. As part of this work, RMES is active in engaging with regulators and industry organizations to share feedback for better outcomes.
Additionally, the RMES team is responsible for shaping GBM’s entity strategy, with the goal of optimizing business activities, identifying opportunities and efficiencies, and assuring governance across the firm’s global entities. This involves detailed analysis and preparation / presentation of materials related to entity-specific initiatives that will deliver value and reduce risk for the firm.
Across both areas of our work, we provide significant value to the FICC and Equities business through our expertise, commercial and solutions-focused mindset, and commitment to robust risk management and good governance. The team works closely with Divisional Leadership, Sales, Trading, and other stakeholders across Government Affairs, Compliance, Legal, Operations and Engineering.

We are looking for a high-caliber individual based in Tokyo who will handle Japan regulatory and entity strategy, as well as contribute to broader APAC initiatives for the RMES team. We are looking for someone who is mature, outgoing, and self-driving, who will be able to build strong partnerships with stakeholders across the FICC and Equities business, control functions and other teams. The individual needs to have solid familiarity with FICC and Equities products and/or business lines, and experience with Japan regulations. The individual will sit with the FICC and Equities business management team in Tokyo, and report to the RMES APAC regional head in Hong Kong.
Responsibilities
Horizon-scan to identify new regulations in Japan that will impact the FICC and Equities businessPartner with the business units and other relevant teams (Legal and Compliance, Operations, Treasury etc.) to assess the impact of upcoming regulationsCoordinate the firm’s response to regulatory consultations / ensure our feedback is communicated either directly or via industry organizationsDrive the implementation strategy for upcoming regulations, including supporting the design of trading and supervisory controls, new operational processes, and client outreach as neededCommunicate and escalate the impact and risks related to upcoming regulations to business and firm leadershipDevelop educational materials on existing or upcoming regulations to support the FICC and Equities desks and clientsIdentify or support ideas and initiatives related to entity strategy for GBM Public in Japan and more broadly in APAC, and drive analysis / materials to progress those initiatives to deliver value and reduce riskHelp identify where existing regulatory controls can be more effective and driving planning to make those improvementsActively participate in Japan and regional industry organizations as neededSupport the broader APAC team on regulatory and entity strategy initiatives as needed
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years’ relevant experienceBilingual Japanese and English, with strong speaking and writing skills across both languagesSolid understanding of FICC and Equities business lines, products, workflows and/or trading venuesKnowledge of the financial regulations landscape in Japan, including familiarity with regulatory bodies and their remitsExperience analyzing Japan regulations related to sales and trading in particularPreferred: Experience assessing the impact and application of those regulations on business activitiesPreferred: Experience driving strategic projects and communicating updates to stakeholdersHigh degree of intellectual curiosity and proactive learner with an ability to distil large amounts of complex information into readily digestible work productStrong presentation skills and ability to communicate to a range of audiences, including clients and senior internal stakeholdersEntrepreneurial and self-motivated; ability to build their own book of work and embrace opportunities as they appearExcellent teamwork skills and a strong work ethic; ability to multi-task, problem-solve, adapt, build consensus across teams, and prioritize, as we expect the candidate to be self-sufficient across a portfolio of projectsExcellent working use of Excel & PowerPoint; strong ability to manipulate data into usable reports will be an advantageABOUT GOLDMAN SACHS
