The Clinical Informatics Specialist is responsible for assisting the Director of Clinical Informatics with the facilitation of the development, education, implementation and evaluation of clinical information system(s). In collaboration with Information Services, Interdisciplinary Departments, Nursing, Physicians they provide support for the identification, design, implementation and evaluation of clinical information system(s). The Clinical Informatics Specialist reports to the Director of Clinical Informatics

Essential Functions

Provide support to the Director of Clinical Informatics, in the design, testing, education, implementation and evaluation of clinical information systems and the technology to support it.Assist with the identification and coordination of clinical users for communication, expectation management and input during system development, education, implementation and evaluation.Facilitate the flow of information and communication for establishing and maintaining understanding between IS, physicians, nurses and ancillary staff.Assist to identify the clinical information and data requirements across the organization and support the development of a clinical information system to meet those requirements.Assist in coordination of the development of clinical rules, standards development, order sets, forms and data dictionaries that encourages evidenced based practice, standardized approach to care delivery, leverages clinicians’ time and maximizes communication with all care providers, both internally and externally.Posses an understanding of regulatory standards and the development of a compliance process using the information system where possible, as defined by JCAHO, the Department of Health, and other regulatory bodies.Assist with identify organizational learning needs and expectations in the area of clinical informatics, including designing and implementing a center wide education plan both for initial implementation and ongoing education.Works with members across disciplines to identify system(s) impact on workflow processes, redesign of current workflow, and assist with developing a plan to implement the changes.Assist with the facilitating the development of systems that allows data to be analyzed, benchmarked and evaluated for effective outcomes, streamlined clinical processes and improved quality of care.Support strategies to move AMC toward a fully integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR)Demonstrate on-going commitment to self-guided learning of clinical informatics, performance improvement and clinical operations. Attend national medical informatics forum as available (is HIMSS, AMIA)Represent Albany Medical Center through involvement in informatics oriented professional organizations, delivering presentations, publishing, and maintaining contacts with members of the business community and professional organizations.Understand and role model the Leadership Expectations in every setting.Participates/Chairs committees as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor's Degree in health, business, or informatics field required or Master's Degree in health, business, or informatics field required and additional education in informatics

Work Experience

Minimum of six years experience in a health care setting.required and Minimum of three years experience in clinical informatics. required
