GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Glendo State Park is one of the most complex and highly visited sites within the Wyoming State Parks system, welcoming over 500,000 visitors annually across 22,000 acres. The park encompasses 20 campgrounds with more than 530 campsites, 40+ miles of multi-use trails, five public water systems, a wastewater system, and 35 concession contracts.
The Park Superintendent is responsible for the protection and enhancement of Glendo’s natural and cultural resources. This leadership role includes overseeing daily operations, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all visitors. Core responsibilities include public engagement, facilities and grounds maintenance, visitor services, interpretive programming, staff supervision, and budget management.
The Park Superintendent plays a vital role in representing the park within the local community and supports department-wide initiatives. The position ensures compliance with state policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards to provide high-quality recreational and educational experiences, while managing fiscal and environmental stewardship at the highest level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
+ Manages and oversees all aspects (budget, personnel, and operations) of a large recreation-based state park with a large number of visitors.
+ Manages park personnel.
+ Public Relations. Management of all community public relations, including friends groups, volunteers, state, federal, and municipal agencies, and other NGOs. Oversight of all aspects of concessionaire operations.
+ Customer Service. Professionally handle customer complaints and promote customer satisfaction.
+ Acts as agency liaison with other agencies and the general public.
+ Supervises the operation of a State Park.
+ Responsible for budget tracking, determining the needs and purchase of equipment and supplies, calling for bids on some purchases, and conducting supply inventory.
+ Responsible for daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports and communicating with the public and other agencies.
+ Supervises and monitors the fee program and the collection and reporting of all funds.
+ Maintains roads, facilities, grounds, boat ramps, and docks.
+ Responsible for equipment and vehicle maintenance.
+ Provides assistance to local, county, and state law enforcement, emergency, and fire personnel as needed.
+ Enforces state park rules and regulations to protect natural and cultural resources.
+ Conducts training and keeps mandatory certification up to date.
+ Follows all State, Federal, and department polices.
+ Assists firefighters in fighting fires and other emergencies.
+ Writes grants for special projects.
+ Develop, implement, review, and adapt exhibits, programming, and marketing to fit the changing needs of the agency or the visitor.
+ Responsible for waste management and sanitation, and is aware of issues affecting public health and safety.
+ Performs major repairs to facilities, water lines, equipment, roads, etc., or hires contractors to do the work.
+ Uses computers and digital technology to formulate and submit reports, correspondence, files, traffic data, pictures, etc., and to communicate with other staff and agencies.

Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
+ Skill in personnel management, government budgeting and accounting, public speaking, report writing, intra and inter-agency communication.
+ Skill and ability to effectively communicate, train, and lead employees,
+ Knowledge of State Personnel rules; employee hiring, evaluation, and disciplinary procedures.
+ Skills in the construction, plumbing, and electrical trades as they pertain to the operation, management, and construction of new and older park facilities/structures.
+ Knowledge and skilled in grounds rehabilitation and maintenance practices associated with heavy-use recreation areas. Ability to troubleshoot problems with park facilities and structures, equipment, natural resources, and site amenities.
+ Skill in vehicle and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
+ Knowledge of weed and pest control practices and procedures.
+ Ability to professionally interact, communicate, and educate with the visiting public and constituent groups.
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Knowledge of Law Enforcement procedures and techniques.
+ Knowledge of park management.
+ Knowledge of Government budgeting and accounting.
+ Knowledge of water systems and current EPA rules, operation, and maintenance.
+ Knowledge of construction trades pertaining to building and maintenance.
+ Knowledge of Vehicle and construction equipment operation and maintenance.
+ Knowledge of firefighting, search and rescue.
+ Knowledge of fee collection procedures and accounting.
+ Knowledge of inter-agency and intra-agency communications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Park Management)
Experience:
1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Park Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Parks Superintendent I
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Park Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Parks Superintendent I

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ Must be able to drive vehicles and operate cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment
+ May work outdoors in all weather conditions
+ Must be able to lift 50 lbs with or without accommodation
NOTES:
+ FLSA: Non-Exempt
+ Commercial pesticide applicators certification, First Aid & CPR, AED, and appropriate Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
