GL Accounting Manager

The Manager, General Accounting, is a key member of our accounting team.  This role’s primary responsibilities include leading a team of 2 staff to close our books while ensuring compliance with US GAAP.  This leader is responsible for accounting for our expenses, fixed assets, and intangible assets, among other areas during our 4-day close and report process.  The successful candidate will work directly with FP&A and others in the business to ensure the accounting team provides accurate accounting.  Managing accounts payable processing is also part of this role, which will require the manager to work with Procurement and other Vertafore employees throughout the organization to ensure timely and accurate payments.  Documentation of all applicable processes, procedures, and SOX controls for the team’s areas is also part of this role.  As an integral leader in the accounting and finance organization, this person will provide leadership to the team by managing deliverables, setting expectations, meeting deadlines, providing ongoing performance feedback, and developing goal setting.    Core Requirements and Responsibilities:     Essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:  Meet our 4 day close and report deadline  Apply US GAAP to the areas of responsibility   Manage the accounts payable process to ensure timely and accurate vendor payments.    Assist with business combinations  Design and rationalization of internal controls  Accurate monthly variance analyses and account reconciliations  Assess and change processes to balance operational effectiveness and efficiency with effective internal control  Key point person for internal and external audit on related areas  Partner with FP&A to develop forecasts  Provide variance explanations for monthly reporting package  Lead system implementations to automate processes    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Knowledge and experience with US GAAP over the mentioned areas and business combinations  Ability to manage related month-end close activities, including prepare and review journal entries, reconcile between systems, analyze results, understand trends and develop expectations, report on relevant matters, and prepare and review account reconciliations  A background in understanding, designing, implementing, and rationalizing internal controls under SOX   Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively with senior leadership and across functional teams from around the company  Ability to track and prioritize competing tasks to meet deadlines  Exceptional knowledge of Excel and MS Office applications  Strong problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, and a bias for action
