GIS Technician
Job Title: GIS TechnicianJob Description

The GIS Technician will play a crucial role in supporting natural gas construction teams by collecting and managing GIS data for mapping purposes. This position is based at a construction site within half an hour from Royal Oak and requires the individual to work directly with a unionized construction team. The role involves leveraging GIS and GPS technologies to collect as-installed gas asset information and manage relevant data through GIS applications.

ResponsibilitiesCollect as-installed asset information on construction projects using GIS and GPS technologies.Support complex construction concerns where positional relationships are necessary.Develop, maintain, and apply documentation processes associated with integrated systems including hardware, applications, and protocols.Participate in meetings or demonstrations such as Operating Reviews, technology field demonstrations, and pre-construction meetings.Coordinate with the Contractor Oversight Liaison and engineering personnel on large, complex distribution plastic gas main construction projects.
Essential SkillsTechnical understanding of construction, design, and record development of natural gas distribution systems.Proficiency in construction print reading, safety practices, and regulatory requirements.Ability to coordinate project needs and priorities simultaneously.Strong communication and presentation skills.Experience with GPS antenna hardware and software usage.Understanding of Surveying Control practices.Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, including ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and Field Maps.Familiarity with Natural Gas Distribution systems.Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMs).
Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor’s Degree with a minimum of three (3) years of related applicable work experience, OR Associate degree with a minimum of six (6) years of related applicable work experience, OR High School Diploma with a minimum of ten (10) years of applicable work experience.Utility Locator Experience.Excavation Safety (Ladder Safety).
Work Environment

The position requires working in a construction trailer or outside at the natural gas construction site. The schedule consists of four 10-hour days from Monday through Thursday, with optional overtime on Friday and Saturday. The role involves travel to job sites and project meetings, with work completed onsite. Candidates must be willing to relocate at their own expense if outside the driving area. The role requires carrying specific equipment, including ladders, GPS antennas, iPads, laptops, rod extensions, paint, and personal protective equipment. No remote work is available.

This is a Contract position based out of Jackson, Michigan.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $36.00/hr.
