GI Technician I - MPU, Westwood
Description Under the general direction and supervision of the Administrative Nurse I and II, the Gastroenterology Technician I is responsible for the complex and critical job of endoscope and equipment decontamination and reprocessing and is the departmental expert in this vitally important area. You will perform duties as a processing technician to include decontamination and processing of flexible endoscopes and probes as assigned and needed within UCLA Health System. This process will encompass ensuring that a pre-clean was performed prior to handling, leak testing, manual washing, loading into an automated processor or manual high-level disinfection process, drying, and storage. All processing will follow department specific guidelines and policies as well as manufacturer's instructions in handling and care of their product. You will also responsible for assisting with equipment preparation, setup, inventory control, testing and arranging repair, and documentation of endoscope processing and repair. Generally supervised by the AN I, given work assignment by the AN I, charge nurse, or designated lead nurse on the MPU. Responsible for taking direction and coordinating workflow from senior technicians and registered nurses assigned to the MPU. Training will be provided by the department. In-services and training will also be provided by specific product manufacturers with competencies.
