GI Assistant

Position Summary
The GI Assistant is a key member of the endoscopy team, responsible for assisting in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Working in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment, the GI Assistant supports physicians, nurses, and anesthesia staff by ensuring the safe and efficient operation of endoscopic equipment and providing direct patient support throughout procedures.
Responsibilities
• Assists nursing staff with patient admission and discharge
• Prepares, operates, and maintains endoscopic equipment before, during, and after procedures
• Aids physicians and nursing staff during endoscopic procedures
• Documents procedural information accurately and timely in the electronic health record
• Ensures all equipment and endoscopy suites are clean and adhere to infection control standards
• Transports patients to and from the endoscopy suite as needed and assists with positioning and monitoring during procedures
• Collects and processes tissue and/or fluid specimens as required
• Monitors inventory levels and restocks supplies as needed
• Follows strict hospital protocols related to patient safety, infection control, and equipment handling
• Participates in ongoing training, competency evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
• Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred
• Current CNA registration with the State of Idaho, current Certified Medical Assistant, or current Surgical Technician certification required
• Knowledge of Sterile Techniques
• Comply with ethical, professional and legal standards inherent in patient care and professional conduct, e.g., patient's bill of rights
• BLS required
Working Conditions
• Must be able to lift and move up to 35lbs
• Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
• Typical equipment used in a clinical job
• Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
• Must be able to push, pull or transport heavy equipment
• Must be able to assist in patient transfer
