A leading engineering and environmental consulting firm is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Project Manager to support a variety of commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects throughout New York City. This role is critical in managing geotechnical investigations and design services, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and timely project delivery.
ResponsibilitiesLead geotechnical investigations including soil borings, test pits, and drilling operations.Oversee field activities such as soil sampling, coring, and geotechnical inspections.Prepare and review geotechnical reports, including support of excavation (SOE), retaining walls, load test details, and soil/rock classifications.Design deep foundations, underpinning systems, and earth retention structures using AutoCAD and geotechnical software.Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to resolve technical challenges and maintain project schedules.Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and field staff.Ensure compliance with local codes, safety standards, and project specifications.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred).Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.Minimum 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience, including both field and design work.Proficiency in AutoCAD and geotechnical design software.Strong understanding of soil mechanics, deep foundations, and excavation support systems.Excellent communication and leadership skills.Proven ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with proposal writing and client presentations.Familiarity with NYC building codes and Department of Buildings (DOB) requirements.Strong organizational and project management capabilities.Work Environment
This is a fully onsite position based in New York City. The role includes both office-based design/reporting and regular field visits to active construction sites across the five boroughs.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $85.00/hr, depending on experience and qualifications.
