Geotechnical Inspector

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Geotechnical Inspector to support water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting field inspections, monitoring geotechnical activities, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform geotechnical field inspections including soil sampling, compaction testing, and foundation observations.
• Monitor excavation, trenching, backfilling, and dewatering operations to ensure adherence to geotechnical design and safety protocols.
• Review and interpret geotechnical reports, construction drawings, and specifications related to water and wastewater systems.
• Document field activities, prepare inspection reports, and maintain accurate records of site conditions and test results.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and municipal agencies to resolve geotechnical issues during construction.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.
• Assist in evaluating ground conditions for pipeline installations, lift stations, treatment plants, and other water/wastewater facilities.
• Recommend corrective actions for geotechnical deficiencies or deviations from approved plans.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in geotechnical inspection, preferably in water and wastewater projects.
• Familiarity with ASTM standards, AASHTO specifications, and local building codes.
• Certification in soil and concrete testing (e.g., NICET, ACI, or equivalent) is preferred.
• Strong understanding of geotechnical principles including soil mechanics, slope stability, and groundwater behavior.
• Proficient in using field testing equipment and inspection software.
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
• NYCDEP experience is preferred
• A New York PE License or ability to obtain one within 2 years.
Working Conditions:
• Field-based role with exposure to varying weather conditions and construction environments.
• May require lifting equipment, standing for extended periods, and working in confined spaces.
