About the position:
The Geomechanics Specialist will provide basic modeling support across various disciplines and functions to enable safe operations & reducing environmental risk, enhance field productivity & ensure reserves, and safeguard the system integrity & reliability. The position supports the construction, setup and execution of well and reservoir geomechanical models that are integral to upstream activities. The role brings together working subsurface knowledge and expertise in a growing technical area with significant impact and overlap with Shale and Tight, Carbon Sequestration, Deepwater and Heavy Oil assets. The role requires close collaboration with subject matter experts and chapter managers in Chevron Technical Center located in Houston to maintain workflow alignment.
Key responsibilities:
• Conduct analyses to address geomechanical challenges such as: fracturing, fault reactivation, subsidence/compaction, PI decline, fractured injector performance, wellbore stability, sand production, induced seismicity, etc.
• Develop Finite Element reservoir and well scale meshes and provide quality assurance of meshes.
• Populate numerical geomechanical models with geological and geophysical data, rock properties and, relevant pressure and temperature conditions under collaboration with relevant subject matter experts in Chevron Technical Center located in Houston.
• Execute numerical geomechanics models, extract relevant data and manage results repository.
• Conduct Finite Element modeling and or coupled flow and geomechanics modeling. Manage, create, and analyze Mechanical Earth Models.
Required Qualifications:
• B. Tech. / M. Tech. in Civil / Mining / Mechanical / Petroleum or equivalent Engineering or BS / MS in Earth science disciplines (Geology, Geophysics, Geomechanics)
• 5-7 years of pertinent industry experience.
• Experience in oil and gas industry
• Experience in hands-on geomechanics modeling
• Experience with well operations and understanding of the interplay between subsurface conditions and well ops
• Experienced in multiple reservoir types and proficient in a wide range of geomechanics analysis techniques
Preferred Qualifications:
• 5-7 years of experience in geomechanics field
• Experience in three-dimensional unstructured mesh generation tools such as Hypermesh or equivalent software
• Experience in finite element solvers such as Abaqus, Ansys, Parageo, Elfen or equivalent software
• Experience in hydraulic fracture modeling software for shale and tight applications such as Kinetix, ResFrac, StimPlan or equivalent software
• Experience in coupled flow and geomechanics software such as REVEAL, CMG, XSite, GEOS or equivalent software
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
