BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Superintendent Pottery, Plant II, is responsible for supervising the operation of the tunnel kilns and shuttle kilns and the robotic and manual spray operations and dry finishing. Responsible for proper utilization of equipment and personnel to meet established production schedules within budget cost, developing and recommending activities to improve productivity, quality, processing methods or products.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Direct the processing operations for Kilns and Spaying to meet established acceptance standards and engineering specifications and in accordance with planned production schedules.
2. Continuously monitor and analyze the performance of the production units as compared to departmental objectives, cost standards, labor and expense budgets and supply requirements; and as needed, take corrective action or recommend activities to improve results in these areas.
3. Maintains close contact with other production supervision to effect corrective measures on defective ware.
4. Direct the activities of subordinate supervisory personnel and ensure that their duties and responsibilities are clearly defined and communicated to them.
5. Assist in formulation of department operating objectives that support plant and division objectives.
6. Participate in development of budgets and forecasts of material and labor requirements and other operating plans and forecasts.
7. Assist in development and implementation of training programs.
8. Assist in developing of safety rules and practices and ensure that these rules and practices are followed.
9. Assist the industrial engineering department establishing standards for labor and material utilization and methods improvement projects in the responsibility area.
10. Recommend to the Plant Superintendent, the employment, promotion, dismissal or change in compensation of immediate subordinates.
11. Approve department requisitions for equipment, supplies, services or other expenditures.
12. Communicate regularly with the superintendent and HR personnel about the overall status of labor conditions in his area of responsibility.
13. Work with the materials personnel to identify and develop local sources of raw materials and supplies to maximize local content.
14. Comply with the Health and Safety Roles and Responsibilities established for this position.

15. Promote continuous improvements in safety, quality and cost in the Plant operations.
RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Supervisory Relationships:
1. Reports to Superintendent Pottery Plant III
2. Supervises directly foremen kilns & spray
3. Indirectly supervises hourly workers
Organization Relationships:
1. Frequent contact with other members of supervision concerning schedules, work flow, quality and other matters relating to plant operations.
2. Frequent contact with Personnel and security in matters related to employee relation, safety and health and training.
3. Frequent contact with foremen maintenance concerning maintenance of equipment and general services for his department.
4. Occasional contact with other departments in Brownwood, Wisconsin and Spartanburg.
External Business Relationship:
1. Frequent with vendors of equipment and supplies.
2. Occasional contact with personnel of other companies for exchange of ideas and information related to departmental proposals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Preference Bachelor´s Degree.
EXPERIENCE:
Preference two to four years work experience in manufacturing operation.
FORMATION:
Preference Knowledge of ceramic engineering, preferably in kiln operations and supervision. Knowledge in ISO and Six Sigma preferred.
