Reuters seeks an experienced newsroom leader with experience running editorial operations to serve as General Manager, Global Centres.
The General Manager, Global Centres will work with editors and newsroom managers to further build up and manage our new Barcelona global newsroom, a key part of our 24/7, follow-the-sun operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with the teams on the ground but also with colleagues in other global centres and other General Managers to strengthen our global editorial operations by allocating resources efficiently, refining workflows, adopting and adapting new tools such as generative AI, managing and developing local journalists and supporting the design and implementation of strategic projects.
A strong communicator, the General Manager will also be the senior representative of Reuters in Barcelona, working as needed with local authorities and other stakeholders to make this operation successful.
This is an important and challenging role, at the heart of some of Reuters most important operations, and it promises significant opportunity for professional growth, in an exciting location.
About the Role
As our General Manager, Global Centres, you will:
Oversee operational aspects of our Barcelona global centre
Work closely with editors in translating coverage and business priorities into decisions on hiring and team structure
Manage, alongside global and regional editors, the performance and career development of journalists based in Barcelona
Partner with internal HR, safety, legal, finance and real estate teams on issues related to our teams in Barcelona and other global centres
Champion innovation in workflows and use of technology
Work closely with other General managers in the region and globally to plan and execute budgets and other resources
About You
To be our General Manager, Global Centres, you will:
Have a proven track record in effectively managing editorial teams or in overseeing editorial operations
Bring experience in managing complex stakeholder relationships, including senior leaders and externally
Have a track record of delivering change in the newsroom and comfortable delivering difficult messages
Demonstrate aptitude for or experience in integrating new technologies into newsrooms
Bring a strong commitment to equity and fairness when dealing with staff
Spanish language skills a plus
